Position: Officer, Development
Location: Humber River Health Foundation
Reports to: Vice President, Philanthropy
Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time | Hybrid (Tuesday to Thursday in office)
Position Overview
The Officer, Development drives foundation engagement and donor cultivation at Humber River Health Foundation. This role leads foundation grant applications, delivers polished presentations, and plans/hosts cultivation events that deepen donor relationships and secure support for hospital priorities.
Key Responsibilities

Foundation Grant Applications
o Lead the full lifecycle of foundation applications: research, strategy, drafting, submission, and reporting
o Maintain a calendar of deadlines, submissions, and stewardship touchpoints
o Partner with Finance/Programs (internal hospital colleagues) to align budgets, outcomes, and impact narratives
o Maintain major gifts donor pipeline and moves management
o Participate in monthly reviews with direct report to review fundraising achievements, monitor fundraising productivity, and identify issues that require additional support or course correction -
Presentations and Donor Communications
o Build compelling decks, cases, and talking points for donor/foundation meetings
o Present confidential briefing notes to volunteers, board members, and community partners; prep speakers as needed -
Cultivation Events
o Plan and host cultivation events (gatherings, briefings, gratitude touchpoints) to inspire giving, including weeknight and weekend events
o Shape event goals, run-of-show, program content, and speaker preparation (logistics support provided by the team) -
Stewardship and Reporting
o Collaborate with the Donor Relations team to prepare grant update letters, impact reports, and recognition materials
o Ensure thoughtful follow-ups post-meetings/events to advance proposals and strategize on the next ask -
CRM and Coordination
o Log activities, proposals, and outcomes in Raiser’s Edge; collaborate with Coordinator for data accuracy
o Track Key Performance Indicators for proposals, meetings, and event-driven results -
Other
o Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in fundraising, communications, or related field; CFRE an asset
- 3 to 5 years in fundraising with demonstrable success in foundation grant writing and donor presentations
- Demonstrated success in major gift fundraising, including managing and forging relationships with volunteers and donors
- Strong storyteller with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable hosting cultivation events and interacting with senior stakeholders
- Proficient with CRM systems (Raiser’s Edge preferred), Canva, Outlook, and MS Office/Google Workspace
- Organized, collaborative, and deadline-driven
- Demonstrated tact, diplomacy, creativity, and problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to use sound judgment and maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills
