We are seeking a highly skilled Factory Automation Technology Team Supervisor to join our team. This hands-on technical leader will be responsible for supervising factory automation technicians across a large, highly automated manufacturing facility. Technicians are distributed across multiple zones and systems; therefore, this role requires frequent on-site patrols, direct supervision, and real-time technical support. Supervisors are expected to personally troubleshoot equipment faults, lead recoveries, and maintain technical expertise exceeding the technician level. This hands-on capability is essential for training new technicians, mentoring the team, and ensuring safe, reliable 24/7 automated operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure a safe workplace by enforcing all safety standards, tools, and procedures through visible field leadership.
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of factory automation technicians.
- Lead troubleshooting, fault recovery, and root cause analysis of automation and equipment failures.
- Assign daily preventive maintenance tasks to technicians and ensure routine maintenance is executed and aligned with the production schedule.
- Plan and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance activities by system.
- Ensure production plans are met by analyzing downtime, losses, and constraints and driving corrective actions.
- Monitor quality KPIs, prioritize issues, and guide technicians and operators on corrective measures.
- Monitor the Factory Monitoring / CIM systems to identify equipment downtime early and promptly assign technicians to address issues.
- Coordinate with production, quality, process, and engineering teams to support manufacturing operations.
- Lead or participate in continuous improvement and Kaizen activities focused on Safety, Quality, Cost, and Throughput.
- Manage spare parts coordination and ensure readiness for critical equipment.
- Maintain a consistent on-floor presence throughout the shift.
- Independently diagnose and resolve automation and equipment faults and act as the technical escalation point.
- Set technical standards, verify repair quality, and develop technician capability through direct, hands-on coaching.
Minimum Qualifications
- Technical diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Automation, Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or related field.
- Ability to work any 12-hour shift and overtime in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
- 6+ years of supervisory experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience maintaining and troubleshooting automated equipment.
- Experience with continuous improvement and lean manufacturing systems.
- 5+ years of experience modifying and troubleshooting Siemens PLCs.
- Experience supporting Siemens PLC-based systems in 24/7 automated operations is considered an asset.
- Experience working in a unionized manufacturing environment is considered an asset.
