The City of Abbotsford is seeking a Senior Development Technologist to provide senior level technical leadership for complex development and building permit applications. Reporting to the Manager, Development Engineering, this position plays a key role in the coordination, review, and approval of municipal servicing and engineering requirements associated with rezoning, subdivision, and building permits.

This role is responsible for the technical review of civil engineering designs, servicing strategies, cost estimates, and supporting documentation for high risk or sensitive files. The Senior Development Technologist applies advanced judgement and problem solving skills to evaluate innovative or non standard servicing solutions, ensure compliance with City bylaws and standards, and support informed, defensible decision making.

Acting as a senior technical resource, the position works closely with developers, consultants, regulatory agencies, and internal City departments to resolve servicing issues and advance applications efficiently. The role also provides mentorship and technical guidance to Development Technologists and related staff, supports process improvement initiatives, and assists the Manager with workflow oversight and staff development.

The Senior Development Technologist may contribute to Council reports and presentations, represent the City in contentious or legally sensitive matters, and act or backfill for the Manager, Development Engineering as required.

Qualifications include:

  • Two year diploma in Civil Engineering Technology.

  • Registration as an Applied Science Technologist with ASTTBC.

  • Minimum five (5) years of related experience in land development design and construction or approvals; private sector experience is an asset.

The salary range for this position is $112,530.60 to $132,787.20.
