About the role
As a Packaging Engineer, your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
Responsibilities
Provide expertise in both liquid and solid packaging system engineering Provide subject matter expert in at least one packaging area Developing design concepts, estimates and functional specifications for packaging lines Interpreting mechanical design requirements and customer specifications to ensure that all requirements are realized in the design of the packaging system Specification, purchase, installation and commissioning of packaging equipment On-site construction project coordination and management Machine and process design Preparation of machine testing requirements and procedures Preparation of equipment specification, purchase documentation as well as equipment / facility layout Survey existing conditions Create packaging flow diagrams Understand primary packaging, secondary packaging, tertiary packaging, and material handling Develop schedule A for sales agreement for equipment sub-contracts for installation Lead vendor shop inspection/FAT Procurement for equipment and compressed air package (for bid and construction) Create material balance Create packaging matrix Create speed matrix/V-Curve Create OEE Worksheet Review vendor shop drawings and discipline coordination drawings Create equipment list Identify units of operation Assist with equipment bid package Direct client contact and lead engineer on specific projects Understand size and placement of control/electrical panels Create design basis document and scope of work Produce basis of design documentation Preparation and advise in manufacturing and packaging design principles including conveyance, wrapping, bagging, cartoning, filling, bottling, case packing and palletizing Assist in process simulation Provide construction site support Observe rough-in construction compliance and plans, specs, and details (install support team member) Assist in sanitary design and warehouse design and layout Develop AutoCAD equipment layouts Researching packaging engineering best practices Supporting talent growth within our organization Provide coaching and/or mentoring to a subordinate group when directed by supervisor.
Required Education Skills And Experience
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, packaging, industrial, or manufacturing engineering 8-11 years of work experience in scope, layout, install, and commission packaging equipment lines. 8-11 years of work experience in preparation of machine testing requirements and procedures 8-11 years of work experience in manufacturing and packaging design principles including conveyance, wrapping, bagging, cartoning, filling, bottling, case packing and palletizing 8-11 years of work experience in machine and process design Experience working for professional services, packaging, and food and beverage firms is a plus. Must meet Travel Requirement - On-site construction project coordination and management with travel requirements between 30-50% of the year Proficiency with MS Office, MS Project, and familiarity with AutoCAD Excellent oral and written communication skills Intellectual curiosity and a positive, can-do, team-oriented attitude Strong problem solving, organizing, and time management skills
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift-up to 15 pounds at times.
Travel Requirement
Up to 50% travel required to visit project site and other offices.
