CROSSING GUARD

Currently, the City of Belleville has an exciting opportunity for two highly motivated, strategic, and dynamic individuals to join our Transportation and Operations Services Department as a Crossing Guard.Position Type: Temporary Part Time
Number of Positions: One (1)
Department: Transportation and Operations Services Department

Location: Various locations as assigned throughout the City of Belleville

Hours: Varied, but less than 24 hours/week.
Employee Group: Non-Union
Salary: $18.12 per hour
Closing Date: Sunday, November 16, 2025 at 4:30 PMDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure the safe movement of children in our community by assisting with crossing streets in a safe and professional manner
  • Remain vigilant of traffic situations
  • Maintain a friendly and positive attitude toward children, their guardians and the public
  • Demonstrate adherence to safety rules
  • Report dangerous driving, crossing issues or suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Applicants must possess the ability to make accurate decisions keeping in mind the safety of children at all times
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (“CRC”) and Vulnerable Sector Screening (“VSC”) prior to commencing work at the City of Belleville.
  • Good observation skills and the ability to interact with children and the general public in a positive and friendly manner
  • Must obey all established safety regulations
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector at own expense
  • Required to work outdoors in various weather and traffic conditions
  • Must be able to work split shifts and provide own transportation
