Duties and Responsibilities Under the direction of the Supervisor, Community Programs and/or Recreation Programmer, the successful candidate will develop various means of communication with youth in order to foster a youth friendly centre that is responsive to the needs of youth in the community.
- To support the vision and principles of the City of Mississauga's Youth Friendly Culture.
- Raise awareness and involvement for youth within the community to engage, interact and provide information about youth-friendly activities and community resources.
- To develop, maintain and mentor youth-led advisory group volunteers at the centre that will lead peer to peer activities and provide feedback on city services on a regular basis.
- To maintain a youth friendly environment in the lobby and common areas of the community centre and develop a strong understanding of issues and barriers affecting youth participation.
- Will act as a resource to the community centre in relation to positive youth engagement providing insight and guidance on youth related matters and ideas on how best to meet the needs of youth in the community
- Engage youth (ages 10-24) who access the community centre and within the community to assist them in engaging in recreation services, accessing community resources available to them.
- Provide mentorship and guidance for youth-driven and youth-led events and activities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills And Qualifications
- In the process of a post-secondary degree or diploma in Social Sciences, Child & Youth Worker, Community Development or equivalent work experience in youth services field.
- Demonstrated experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds with knowledge of social service, educational and youth services resources within Peel is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience working with at-risk youth and/or street-involved people is considered an asset.
- Valid Emergency or Standard First Aid with CPR B or C certification (WSIB approved provider i.e. Lifesaving Society Canadian, Red Cross Society, St. John’s Ambulance or the Canadian Ski Patrol).
- HIGH FIVE ® Principles of Healthy Child Development certification or HIGH FIVE Sport Certification
- Primarily community centre environment
- Flexible hours of daytime, evenings and weekends will be required.
- A Level 3 - Vulnerable Sector Check will be required of the successful candidate, as a condition of employment, at their own expense, to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted.
Hourly Rate/Salary: $20.98 - $25.60
Hours of Work: up to 24 hours per week
