The Greenstone Mine commenced production in May 2024 and will be one of Canada's largest open-pit gold mines, with annual production expected to average nearly 400,000 ounces of gold per year for an initial 14-year mine life with additional potential from a large underground deposit. Greenstone Gold Mines LP is owned by Equinox Gold Corp, a Vancouver-based mining company with seven other operating mines in the United States, Mexico and Brazil.
Job Summary
We are seeking a Mine Training Senior Supervisor, Mine Operations to join our team. Reporting to the Mine Operations Superintendent, this role is responsible for leading the recruitment and vetting of potential operator candidates, delivering technical training for Mine Operations equipment operators, and providing ongoing coaching and upskilling for the operator workforce. This role is accountable for maintaining a full complement of highly skilled operators and administering specialty training to support advanced mining techniques such as haul road construction, wall scaling and remediation, and dump management.
The incumbent will ensure alignment with corporate safety standards, regulatory compliance, and site operating procedures while promoting a strong safety culture and operational excellence.
This position is offered as either a residential role based in Geraldton, Ontario, or as a fly-in/fly-out role with camp accommodations provided. It follows a 14-days-on / 14-days-off rotational schedule (day shift only). This is a field-based role with regular exposure to weather, noise, dust, and close proximity to operating heavy equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the department’s health, safety, and environmental goals and objectives by completing workplace inspections, hazard assessments, reporting safety concerns and incidents, conducting incident investigations, and identifying and implementing corrective actions.
- Collaborate with HR to attract, assess, and select qualified heavy equipment operators.
- Review resumes, shortlist candidates, conduct interviews, and facilitate hiring decisions.
- Support new hires through onboarding and orientation processes specific to Mine Operations.
- Identify operator training needs and develop corresponding programs.
- Deliver or coordinate the delivery of technical training, including advanced equipment skills to operators, coaches, and trainers.
- Monitor operator performance and adjust training to address gaps or improvement opportunities.
- Manage all training records, certifications, and documentation in compliance with regulatory and company requirements.
- Supervise the development and execution of annual training plans.
- Monitor and report on equipment operator performance and fleet utilization.
- Assist Mine Operations Supervisors in optimizing operator swaps to increase equipment utilization.
- Contribute to budget development and cost control related to recruitment and training.
- Administer company policies and procedures to support site objectives.
- Maintain clear and regular communication with Mine Operations leadership and other departments.
- Participate as an active member of the mine leadership team.
- Ensure operators are informed of updates, expectations, and performance metrics.
- Engage in succession planning initiatives and mentor developing operators.
Required Experience and Skill Set
- 20+ years of mining industry experience, preferably in a hard rock open-pit environment.
- 15+ years of heavy equipment operating experience (e.g., shovels, loaders, dozers, graders).
- 5+ years of supervisory experience in a mining environment.
