Purpose:
Consistently ranked in the top tier of the world's best business schools and #1 in Canada, the Schulich School of Business is known for its global reach, innovative programming and the diversity of its student body, faculty, and staff. Schulich enrolls approximately 3,000 students annually in undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate business. Located in Toronto, Canada, the School's multimillion-dollar, award-winning complex is on York University's main campus. Schulich's downtown Miles S. Nadal Management Centre is situated in the heart of the city's financial district. Reporting to the Dean, Schulich School of Business (SSB) and working closely with the Executive Officer (EO) and senior leadership team (SLT), the office manager is responsible for the over all information and records management and maintenance for the Office of the Dean and school, preparation of business development and thought leadership presentations, development and implementation of project plans, supervision of administrative office staff and efficient professional, confidential executive support to the Dean, EO and SLT members. Duties are broad, varied and of a confidential nature. Daily activities involve interaction with staff, executive offices, and high-level internal and external contacts and officials, with exposure to confidential information requiring considerable use of initiative, tact, diplomacy, discretion, and excellent judgment. The role assists the Dean with all aspects of project management, event management, support and management related to administrative and office management, facilitation of senior management meetings, communications, information and records management, and strategic program research and development. Additionally, the role assesses the importance and urgency of issues or problems that arise, addresses issues, or alerts relevant leadership of potential problems or conflicts. The Manager, Office of the Dean is responsible for balancing the complex and competing priorities of the unit which involves strategically meeting the demands of a challenging, diverse, and high-volume environment.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline.
Experience:
4 years of related experience providing a full range of executive support to a senior leader or administrator in a complex institutional environment.
2 years of management or supervisory experience.
Experience with event planning and project management.
Experience developing compelling written and visual communications for a wide variety of audiences.
Skills:
Knowledge of business school marketplace and trends.
Knowledge of general office procedures and practice.
Knowledge of employment legislation.
Knowledge of higher education, economics, future of work (Industry 4.0), immigration, skills development will be required to write for internal and external audience and develop presentation/content outlines.Skills
Effective communication skills including the ability to convey messages that can be understood across all levels of the organization from the ground level through the executive and board level.
Effective planning, organizational and project tracking skills with the ability to multi-task and comprehend new information quickly and balance priorities.
Effective and highly collaborative interpersonal skills, including listening and questioning skills, and the ability to build rapport across the institution while quickly and confidently gaining respect of others.
Ability to exercise good judgment, initiative, and maintain confidentiality.
Ability to build relationships, negotiate and influence, and manage change in a complex environment.
Ability to manage in a team environment and monitor performance, including effective conflict resolution skills.
Able to apply cross-cultural sensitivity to work effectively with diverse groups of staff and students.
Proficient with MS Office suite including Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
Able to adapt to change, new ideas, technology, and practices.

- Compensation:
York's CPM Compensation Framework has a salary grid consisting of 6 or 8 steps (depending on job grade) which is reviewed annually with possible adjustments, and a lump sum Performance Based Recognition Award.
