JUMBO OPERATOR
Location: Hemlo Operations, Marathon, Ontario
Open to Canadian Residents
14 shifts-on / 14 shifts-off (days and nights), 12-hour shifts
This position is a DIDO or FIFO role if you reside outside the Marathon/Manitouwadge Ontario area.
THE OPPORTUNITY:
Barminco Mining Services Canada Ltd. has an exciting opportunity for Jumbo Operators that have experience in bolting and boring with Sandvik 421 Jumbos
- Working a rotation of 14-shifts on and 14-days off
- Dayshift and nightshift
- This position is a DIDO or FIFO role if you reside outside the Marathon/Manitouwadge Ontario area.
Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, the successful candidate will present as a leader of the underground crews, responsible for their safety, the safety of their offsiders, and the mentoring and coaching of the broader development crews. The expectation is you can work autonomously supporting development rounds with the jumbo and drilling it out to our clients’ designs.
More specifically, our Jumbo Operators will:

Follow plans to ensure efficient mining, mindful of the effects of overbreak and poorly drilled rounds

Maintain a strong focus on minimizing overbreak, dilution, and re-work by achieving high-quality, well-controlled drill patterns.

Understand and assess different ground conditions and communicate any geotechnical concerns promptly to ensure safe and productive development.

Work autonomously, driven to succeed and keen to undertake new tasks and learn new skills

Provide guidance, support, and on-the-job training to less experienced crew members while leading by example, sharing knowledge of safe practices, efficient drilling methods, and mine standards to help develop a strong, skilled team.

Demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude with a thorough understanding of jumbo drill rig functions and maintenance requirements. Troubleshoot minor faults and issues on equipment to reduce downtime and maintain productivity.

Take a leadership role within the development workplace, promoting safety, teamwork, and high performance. Support shift objectives by organizing tasks, communicating clearly, and ensuring standards are consistently met.

Skills and Experience:
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalency
- Demonstrated commitment to working safely while ensuring the safety of others
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in underground hard rock mining
- Minimum 3 years’ experience bolting and boring with a Jumbo, Sandvik experience is preferred.
- Ontario Underground Hard Rock Mining Common Core, inclusive of U0089 Operate Mechanized Jumbo Drill
- Strong organizational, planning and time management skills
- Strong communications skills, verbal and written
- Be flexible and willing to assist with a variety of tasks as required
- Ability to learn new tasks quickly
- Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment
