About the role
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Manager, Operations, the Plant Superintendent is responsible for effective and efficient operation of production lines to ensure cost effective, timely manufacture of quality products in accordance with established business plans/objectives. Overseas production planning, creates, coordinates, and implements approved production shift schedules and activities directed toward production continuity and balance. Coordinates and integrates with other department functions to ensure support in attaining output, productivity and quality.
Key Accountabilities:
- Oversees the department’s operations, ensures quality and adherence to production specifications to meet customer expectations and business objectives. This is achieved by:
- Providing effective leadership and direction to Supervisors (coaching, cross-training, addressing and resolution of HR-related issues and concerns)
- Appropriate resource allocation
- Communication and an on-going reinforcement of production performance indicators/requirements (i.e. health and safety; food safety and quality, customer service, cost, etc.)
- Monitors and provides analysis on production reports including yield variance quality, and injury reports;
- Identifies areas of process improvement, utilizing Lean Enterprise tools and programs in production areas in conjunction with all Plant functions;
- Accountability to drive Process Reliability improvements;
- Drives Waste Elimination and Productivity improvement initiatives;
- Ensures a safe work environment for employees, customers and visitors. This includes monitoring working practices and adherence to safety procedures;
- Work in conjunction with the Quality Assurance/Technical Services team in order to review processes, and ensuring that finished product passes vigorous quality assessments.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Post Secondary degree or diploma with emphasis on food processing, and/or solid supervisory/ management experience in a food processing manufacturing environment.
- 5 – 10 years’ leadership experience, ability to manage production labour force within the terms of the Collective Agreement and through Human Resources policies, guidelines and procedures.
- In-depth knowledge of GMP’s, HACCP, and WHMIS.
- Union experience is an asset
- Strong Communication skills.
- Proficient in MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
