Lead and manage the Air Canada airport signage portfolio around the world including signage requirements for regional operators. In addition to the airport signage program, the incumbent is responsible for all signage requirements for the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges, Air Canada Café and Air Canada Signature Suite, Air Canada Cargo, Rivo and Air Canada offices located in various countries. Play an instrumental role in the rollout of Air Canada’s Airports 2030 project, updating all airport signage with the new Glowing Hearted look and check-in process across several stations.
Accountable for the audit, design, development, production, approval and installation of Air Canada’s and its regional operators’ signage program in keeping with the brand visual identity and corporate airport requirements.
Responsibilities
Based on the various brand visual identity, defines the overall strategy and leadership for the design of the various signage portfolio. In addition to brand compliance, design must also enhance visibility/legibility and comply to individual airport or building regulations and language requirements. Responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring a signage ordering program/system for on-going requirements – for all signage programs – to ensure compliance, efficiency (timing and shipping). Based on Marketing Airport’s team input, create and deliver guidelines/standards for the signage program in terms of requirements per specific area (check-in, customer services, etc.) to be used by the Audit team as well as each station for monitoring and implementation. Leads efforts to modernize the signage portfolio, including monitoring, ordering and shipping system process with the goals of being more automated and turnkey. Works closely with Airport Operations team at HQ and Studio to build an updated signage workflow across teams to minimize friction and delays, with the goal of being more nimble and quick-to-market fulfilling signage requirements. Provides project leadership by coordinating activities across airport operations, airport managers, CRE, Studio, and other internal stakeholders, giving direction on signage standards, and ensuring accountability among internal and external partners. Manages vendor contracts for compliance, on-time delivery and QA. Vendors include, but are not limited to, SignAgent, printing vendor, hardware vendor, storage, and installers. Ensures QA is a part of all new and updated signage projects, including documented installation (photos, QA, cleanliness and professionalism, permit coordination with CRE, etc. Leads signage proposal presentation to airport authority for review and approval with the objective of maximizing Air Canada visibility in each station. Monitors shipping processes and costs to reduce overall expenses while ensuring on time delivery. Responsible for building a database of approved installers around the world and analyses best installation approach for each request (internal, local versus external) – decision based on the installation requirements, timing and costs. Manage budget for the worldwide signage implementation program and on-going yearly requirements. Collaborates with AC’s Studio on creative direction for colour, material selection, hardware signage requirements, etc. for new or renovated airport space. Supports Corporate Real Estate (CRE) for opening of new stations, moving of existing stations or new facilities by preparing a presentation and recommendation to maximize our brand visibility and ensure proper directional signage is provided to help customers through their airport journey. Work with brand team with regards to the design, production and implementation of airport programs (examples: boarding pass printing, kiosks GUI, ID tags, carry-on hand held sizer, etc) Co-lead design and implement new visual identity for the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges portfolio (internal signage and external facing) – including Executive approval and coordination of audits, creating a schedule for implementation, budget and provide approval during final installations. When required, prepare AFC for approval. Main contact for our Star Alliance partnership to ensure that we comply with all Start Alliance airport requirements, provide audits when requested and ensure that all future signage is compliant. Responsible for coaching and mentoring 1-contract direct report. Potential for growing team across operations in the near future by 1-full time direct report.
University degree in Marketing or Communications, Operations. Minimum of 5 years of applicable work experience. Proficient computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Highly organized and structured. Strong knowledge of signage production processes (timelines, cost, material). Very strong and effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to be assertive, manage conflict, and make decisions. Can recognize areas for operational efficiencies and has experience modernizing process. Demonstrate punctuality and dependability to support overall team success in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work under minimal supervision. Team player. Available for travelling.
