Part-Time Digital Editor (Overnight)
Pagemasters North America (PMNA) is seeking a part-time digital editor to work one to two weekend shifts a week on an overnight schedule (11 p.m.-8 a.m. ET) for our client The Boston Globe. The successful candidate will be someone with strong news judgment and the ability to work independently, reacting to breaking news and keeping the homepage fresh.
In this position, you will:
- Monitor wire stories throughout the night, publishing any breaking content that would be of interest to The Boston Globe’s readers
- Use your news judgment to curate the homepage, deciding which staff or wire stories to feature prominently for an American audience
- Write and schedule posts for social media platforms (X and Facebook)
- Proofread the morning newsletter
- Use your solid understanding of SEO best practices to improve display copy, related links and metadata of online stories
- Learn quickly and apply the client's style rules and editorial standards
Requirements
- Experience editing and publishing news stories for a digital audience
- An ability to package stories with clear, engaging headlines and images
- Knowledge of SEO and online news best practices
- Strong news judgement: An ability to identify important stories quickly
- Solid copy editing skills
- Two or more years of experience in journalism or a related field
- Experience using the content management system Arc would be an asset, but isn’t required
- Must be available to work overnight shifts every Friday and possibly Saturdays
This role can be done remotely from anywhere within Canada. The hourly rate will range from $21 to $25, depending on experience, plus an overnight premium of $20/shift. The company offers a matching pension contribution plan and $25/month toward internet reimbursement.
