Basic Function
Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc. (PCLI), an HF Sinclair business, located in Mississauga, ON is seeking a full-time Maintenance Supervisor. Reporting to the Maintenance & Engineering Team Leader, the Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for directing an hourly workforce to complete all maintenance activities within the Lubeplex, ensuring safe, efficient and timely execution of preventative and predictive maintenance plans required for reliable production. The Supervisor manages scheduled and non-scheduled production support work including safety, environmental, regulatory, corrective and capital driven repairs. The Supervisor is responsible for performance management of direct reports by consistently applying the Collective Bargaining Agreement, ensuring close adherence to PCLI policies, procedures and compliance to the OH&S Act.
Job Duties
- Ensure that a disciplined approach to safety is present in the Maintenance Group and all work is executed without incident
- Maintain a visible presence in the field to foster the One HFC Culture, employee engagement and assess work process effectiveness
- Ensure direct hourly reports (Maintenance Technicians) are trained and competent to complete the work assigned to them. This includes performance management and development of workforce competency requirements within the framework of the performance based progression system
- Manage time entry and Trade resources. This includes regular monitoring of attendance trends and enforcement of the absenteeism policy with coaching and remediation as necessary
- Coordinate all incoming maintenance requests. Screen new work notifications, prioritize work according to business & personnel risk and identify scheduling & execution requirements
- Ensure the work prioritization and backlog management processes are utilized effectively. Meet key performance indicators; steward and audit work progress with course correction as necessary
- Communicate with Production regularly, confirming the right work is done at the right time
- Ensure all identified regulatory and pressure integrity work is completed on time and remains in compliance with internal and external standards and guidelines
- Ensure preventative work is completed to improve reliability and reduce the risk to the business.
- Coordinate contractors through the Contractor Management Program to ensure their scope is safely and effectively executed
- Plan and coordinate scope creep, break-in and emergency work
- Support with troubleshooting equipment problems to ensure production downtime is minimized
- Conduct independent equipment assessments and review feasibility of upgrades & obsolescence planning.
- Manage and set up assets list and PM using SAP Plant Maintenance Module
- Run and implement maintenance continuous improvement projects and activities such as TPM, 5S, Kanban, Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt) etc.
- Develop, maintain and ensure that critical spare parts list are up to date and available
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.
Experience
- Minimum 5 – 8 years related Maintenance or Operations experience in manufacturing environment, preferably a chemical, pharmaceutical, food or refinery environment
- Experience planning/supervising and/or coordinating Maintenance work, preferably in a unionized environment
- Supervisory knowledge of the OH&S Act and cursory understanding of the CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement)
- Working knowledge and experience in various types of static, rotating and packaging equipment
- Formal supervisory of a unionized workforce experience is strongly preferred
- Experience in a high-speed blending/packaging type facility and/or heavy industrial environment is also preferred
Education Level
- Post-secondary education, however, a combination of education and experience may be considered
- Engineering Degree or a valid trade certificate/license or a relevant technical degree/diploma preferred
Required Skills
- Strong demonstrated safety mindset and performance
- Solid understanding of warehouse, manufacturing environments, processses and procedures
- Highly developed sense of judgment and discretion as the position deals with sensitive and confidential matters and interfaces with a broad range of stakeholders
- Attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
- Strong leadership skills, including interpersonal, communication and conflict management skills
- Demonstrates initiative, requires minimal direction and oversight
- Solid computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office Suite (both Word and Excel)
- Knowledge in SAP Plant Maintenance
- Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to multi-task
- Strong analytical skills; decision making and troubleshooting / problem solving in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to develop positive working relations across a multitude of business units
- Knowledge of W.H.M.I.S. and the OH&S Act and Regulations
- Planning & estimating experience is a strong asset
- Knowledge of SAP is also a strong asset
Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility
- This position supervises a crew of 9-12 full time and contract unionized employees
- The Supervisor is responsible for performance management of direct reports by consistently applying the Collective Bargaining Agreement
- This position ensures close adherence to PCLI safety policies and procedures and compliance to the OH&S Act
Work Conditions
- This position is Safety Sensitive
- 50% / 50% office and field split, working in a Packaging / Manufacturing environment
- Required to work in all temperatures and subject to varying weather conditions. May be exposed to dust, dirt, mud, water, and petroleum products, etc. Work in high, precarious places up to 200ft. Outdoor duties under wet and/or humid conditions, at both below grade and elevated positions. Industrial environment, including, but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, steam lines, electricity, loud noise, vibrations, confined spaces and rotating equipment
- Interaction with many craft and professional disciplines within PCLI as well as a large contracted maintenance service provider
- Excess hours may be required during planned outages or urgent/emergency situations
- High level of stress associated with meeting deadline and effectively handling many concurrent tasks as well as resolving issues on the run
