Williams Operating Corporation - Barrick Gold located near Marathon in Northwestern Ontario presently requires a: ACCOUNTING CLERK Position Description The Accounting Clerk provides support to the Finance Department with a primary focus on Accounts Payable. This role is responsible for processing vendor invoices and payments, employee expense claims, reconciling accounts, and assisting with other routine accounting functions to ensure accurate and timely financial records. This role ensures the integrity of financial data, maintains positive relationships with vendors and internal stakeholders, and supports the Finance team in achieving operational and reporting objectives.
Responsibilities
- Process full-cycle accounts payable, including matching purchase orders, invoices, and receipts, ensuring proper approvals and coding.
- Review and verify invoice accuracy, supporting documentation, and compliance with contractual terms.
- Ensure invoices are entered in a timely manner to maximize early payment discounts.
- Prepare weekly and monthly payment runs (cheques, EFTs, wire transfers) in accordance with company payment schedules.
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve invoice or payment discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Maintain organized and accurate AP records for audits, reporting, and regulatory compliance.
- Assist in month-end and year-end closing by preparing accruals, reconciliations, and AP-related reporting.
- Process employee expense claims and corporate credit card reconciliations in compliance with company policies.
- Collaborate with Procurement, Site Administration, and other departments to ensure timely and accurate payment processing.
- Identify opportunities to negotiate and work with vendors for early payment discounts, bulk purchase savings, and other cost reduction initiatives.
- Support internal and external audits by providing AP documentation and explanations as requested.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, and compliance within the AP function.
- Perform other finance and administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Post secondary education in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration (preferred).
- Minimum 2–5 years of accounts payable or related accounting experience, preferably in mining or industrial environments.
- Strong knowledge of accounts payable processes, internal controls and financial policies.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); SAP or ELEMENT experience considered an asset.
- High attention to detail and accuracy with confidential and sensitive information.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
This is a residential position, requiring relocation or residence in the local community, on a 4 days on / 3 days off schedule with 10-hour shifts.
