About Us:
The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE), or The EX as it is also known, is Canada’s largest community event and one of the top five agricultural fairs in North America. Taking place over the 18 days leading up to and including Labour Day Monday, the CNE offers a wide variety of interactive entertainment experiences. Attractions may include concerts, celebrity chef demonstrations, an acrobatic and ice-skating show, midway rides and games, a farm, exhibits, food, shopping, and a three-day Air Show. Founded in 1879, the CNE is a cherished tradition for the people of Toronto and surrounding communities and attracts approximately 1.5 million visitors annually.

Primary Role:
Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), with strategic support to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Strategic Relations Specialist plays a vital role in strengthening the CNEA’s relationships with stakeholders, advancing the organization’s profile, and shaping its public image. This role requires a skilled communicator with the ability to build networks, support strategic initiatives, and deliver high-quality communication products that reflect the values and vision of the CNEA.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate on the creation and communication of a favourable public image of the CNEA.
  • Support the development of relationships with government, supporters, advocates, partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Proactively identify and engage key strategic relationships to advance opportunities and address emerging issues.
  • Prepare and compose communications products including media statements, speaking remarks, key messages, and social media content.
  • Contribute to risk mitigation planning and reactive communications strategies.
  • Support the CMO in managing special projects and assist divisions with implementation.
  • Provide strategic support to the CEO in building networks and enhancing stakeholder relationships.
  • Attend and coordinate external meetings and functions for the CEO and CMO.
  • Draft communications and media postings on behalf of the CEO for CMO approval.
  • Collaborate with the Corporate Secretariat and team to support the External Relations Committee and related initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Special Conditions:

  • Willingness to work in environments with bright lights, loud noises, and large crowds.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays as required.

What you Bring to the Team:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Political Science, Marketing, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in communications, stakeholder relations, or external affairs.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with government, corporate, and community partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop high-quality communication products (e.g., media releases, executive remarks, social media).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high degree of professionalism and discretion.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms.

Assets:

  • Experience supporting C-Suite executives and/or Boards of Directors.
  • Knowledge of crisis communications and issues management.
  • Bilingualism (English/French).
  • Experience in the not-for-profit, events, or cultural sector.
