Duties:

  • Use best practice and innovative approaches from an Occupational Therapy perspective, to provide client centered services - including treatment, rehabilitation and support to clients of the FACT Team.
  • Conduct comprehensive client assessments (includes discipline specific and multi-disciplinary assessment instruments, client self-assessment, family assessment in the environment of the client’s choice, reports by other service providers, etc.)
  • Assess client interests, aptitude and motivation as well as financial, social, medical, and vocational histories; formulate and follow through to support client goals, developing individualized Recovery Plans of care.
  • Provide direct assistance with symptom management, Activities of Daily Living, employment (job coaching), social relations through vivo skill teaching, environmental modifications, side-by-side assistance, providing transportation, and other support to facilitate an optimally supportive environment.
  • Monitor and evaluate client progress and revise treatment/recovery plans of care as indicated.
  • Ensure continuity of client care, through exchange of information and communication with the client, family members, and other services providers who may be involved with the client. Secure resources by preparing reports, completing application forms/letters as required.
  • Participate in the design, implementation and evaluation of program services to meet the needs of the program.
  • Establish and maintain effective work relationships with local employers, service providers, stakeholders and families.
  • Provide individual occupational therapy assessment and individual and group treatment to referred clients.
  • Provide supervision to students and Occupational Therapy Assistants.
  • Develop individual treatment plans to be followed by Occupational Therapy Assistants.
  • Contribute to furthering of the goals of the Occupational Therapy profession including attending monthly meetings.
  • Develop therapeutic groups with input from clients, families, and other natural supports, and
  • Lead groups independently, or with other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Adhere to hospital and program policies and procedures, and to the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario standards.
  • Must be willing to discuss performance of other duties as requested by program/discipline/hospital.
  • Work in a manner that complies with staff and patient/client safety practices, policies and procedures of The Royal.
  • Ensure a work environment that is conducive to The Royal’s Anti-Racism, Discrimination and Harassment-Free Workplace policy.

Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSc (OT)) or equivalent according to the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario standards.
  • Minimum of 3 years Occupational Therapy experience, preferably with adults with severe and persistent mental illness.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in community mental health.
  • Member of the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario mandatory.
  • Membership in CAOT and OSOT preferred.
  • Excellent communication, observation, assessment, critical thinking and crisis intervention skills.
  • Clear understanding of MHA and relevant legislation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community resources in Ottawa-Carleton.
  • Completion of Suicide Prevention Training and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training.
  • Understanding of Recovery principles and practice, and able to work effectively as a team player; comfortable with interdependence, consensus decision making and accountability to team needs.
  • Ability to work independently, with demonstrated sound clinical judgment.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle for day to day operations of the team
  • Valid G Driver’s License
  • English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension and written expression.

Salary Range:

40.36 to 56.30 per hour
