For over a century, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra has helped shape and celebrate Canadian culture through acclaimed performances, tours, recordings, and community partnerships. Today, the Orchestra presents 100+ concerts annually, engaging audiences of all ages and backgrounds through vibrant musical experiences and education initiatives.
The Role
The Director, Individual Giving is a strategic and creative fundraising leader who oversees the annual fund and individual giving fundraising initiatives. You’ll integrate marketing strategy, data insight, and storytelling to grow donor relationships, drive sustainable revenue, and build the foundation for long-term philanthropic success.Reports to: Chief Development OfficerStatus: Permanent Full-timeStart date: December 2025 / January 2026 (TBC)
What you’ll do
- 
Lead the annual fund and individual giving strategy to drive acquisition, retention, and upgrades through a data-driven, multi-channel approach. 
- 
Lead integrated campaigns across direct mail, telefund (vendor and script management), digital, social, and monthly giving; set goals and monitor performance. 
- 
Use audience insights, segmentation, and testing to optimize results and forecast outcomes. 
- 
Provide editorial leadership for appeals, stewardship materials, and campaign assets; ensure clarity, accuracy, and a unified TSO voice. 
- 
Partner across Development, Marketing & Communications, DevOps, and Artistic to align calendar, creative, and measurement. 
- 
Lead and coach a small, high-performing team; set KPIs, manage revenue/expense budgets, and report outcomes to leadership. 
What you’ll bring
- 
~8+ years of progressive experience in individual/annual giving or direct marketing, with a track record of revenue growth and pipeline development. 
- 
Strength in segmentation, analytics, and digital fundraising; familiarity with CRMs (e.g., Tessitura) and advanced Excel. 
- 
Excellent writing and editing; comfort moving from strategy to copy. 
- 
Collaborative leadership and a passion for arts and culture (sector knowledge an asset). 
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $100,000–$115,000 CAD (commensurate with experience).
- Benefits: 100% company paid benefits including Telus-Health Employee Family Assistance program (provided after successful completion of the first three (3) months of employment); Company paid pension contributions provided after the completion of one year of employment; 3 weeks vacation prorated during the first year, complimentary tickets to TSO concerts and a hybrid work environment.

Work Environment / Physical Demands
This role involves extended periods of computer and desk work with regular breaks, frequent phone and in-person interactions, occasional lifting of materials for events, and concert/event attendance that may involve standing for extended periods. The position operates in a hybrid office environment and may require occasional travel for donor visits or professional development.

The TSO continues its long-established history of connecting younger generations with orchestral music. Two core programs include School Concerts, performed for over 40,000 students annually, and the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra (TSYO), which, in a tuition-free model, offers high-level orchestral training for talented young musicians aged 22 and under. Additionally, the TSO supports the development of next-generation artists through its annual open call for Canadian orchestral scores, and its essential Resident Conductor and Affiliate Composer.
Sir Andrew Davis serves as Interim Artistic Director, prior to the arrival of the TSO's new Music Director Gustavo Gimeno in 2020/21. Sir Andrew Davis is well known to Toronto audiences, having a 44-year relationship with the TSO.
The TSO was founded in 1922 by a group of Toronto musicians and gave its first performance at the historic Massey Hall. Since 1982, Toronto's iconic Roy Thomson Hall has been the TSO's home, drawing patrons from around the world. Soon to celebrate its centenary, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra's name remains synonymous with musical versatility and growth, and artistic distinction.
