The Waste Management department of the Infrastructure Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Zero Waste Coordinator. Reporting to the Manager of Transportation and Waste Management, this position offers 72 hours bi-weekly starting approximately November 17, 2025, until November 17, 2026.

The Zero Waste Coordinator will work closely with municipal staff and community groups to communicate and respond to public inquiries related to solid waste management programs and initiatives. The Zero Waste Coordinator will engage with special interest groups identifying the best practices, advise municipal staff on waste management expectations, conduct, compile and analyze data, perform project scope development, and attend meeting and working groups.

Qualified candidates will possess post-secondary education in Environmental Engineering Technologist or Environmental Studies with 3-5 years of experience in a similar role. An applied Science Technologist & Technicians of BC (ASTT) certificate along with local government experience would be an asset. Candidates must have knowledge of existing regional and local waste management policies and best practice, waste reduction strategies and trends with the ability to conduct research and present findings in public engagement communications and technical reports to municipal staff.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work independently, effectively manage projects, communicate technical information effectively and interact courteously and professionally with the public and other municipal staff. The successful candidate demonstrates commitment to promoting a diverse and equitable workplace and will create and maintain effective working relationships with others while contributing to a positive team environment. The starting wage for this job position is $44.24 per hour.

As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold a valid class 5 BC driver’s license and provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract before starting employment.
