THE POSITION The Senior Accountant will play a key role in managing SMG’s financial health through accurate reporting, compliance, and process improvement. Reporting to the Controller, this role is responsible for full-cycle accounting, financial analysis, and supporting audits, while ensuring accuracy in all financial data. The Senior Accountant is detail-oriented, analytical, and thrives in a collaborative environment where strong financial stewardship directly contributes to SMG’s growth.
How You Will Be Making An Impact
- Prepare financial statement in compliance with GAAP/IFRS.
- Manage month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, reconciliations and accruals
- Maintain general ledger and ensure accuracy of financial data.
- Support audits with documentation and process improvements.
- Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures.
- Prepare and submit sales tax and other required filings.
- Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable operations as needed.
- Lead weekly and ad hoc payment runs.
- Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency and strengthen internal controls.

- Compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and audit requirements.
- Streamlined accounting processes that improve efficiency and reduce errors.

What Skills And Experience You Require
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in corporate or public accounting.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP/IFRS and Canadian tax regulations (GST/HST, PST).
- Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems
- Advanced Excel skills with strong analytical and problem solving abilities,
- Exceptional attention to details and accuracy.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment is an asset.
