Senior Project Engineer Project Engineering
About the role
Reporting to the Director Project Engineering, the Senior Project Engineer will be responsible for providing leadership and management to the Engineering Projects Team as well as to external liaisons. This position is required to work at all three sites - St. Michael's Hospital, St. Joseph Health Centre & Providence Health Centre sites.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the Engineering Student Program, including supervision of university level engineering and architectural co-operative students, provide technical leadership and development, actively recruit from participating universities and colleges and conduct performance appraisals.
- Lead the implementation of Space Modification Request Projects at both St. Michael’s Hospital (SMH) and Providence (PHC) which includes the oversight project implementation throughout the project lifecycle
- Provide excellent customer service to all the departments within the hospital
- Remediation of floods
- Accountable for construction projects and activities.
- Ensure construction costs and schedules are within budget and plan.
- Delegate tasks as necessary to Project Engineer, Engineering Assistants and external consultants, contractors, trades and service technicians.
- Project Manager/Construction Coordinator on capital renovation projects.
- Accountable for design review and approval, project tendering, construction coordination, site inspections and reviews, City of Toronto approvals and Occupancy.
- Manage budgets and schedules and approve detailed cost estimates and time lines for various renovations, construction and engineering projects.
- Mentor Project Engineering Assistants and provide advice and consultation to site supervisors of projects to ensure methods, materials and time lines are within specifications.
- Develop and implement strategies to ensure high customer satisfaction among internal and external clients.
- Develop and implement Hospital and Departmental policies, procedures and process improvements relating to construction, renovations and major capital equipment procurement.
- Actively participate in Hospital committees to represent the Engineering and Plant Services Department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in Engineering preferred or the equivalent work experience
- Professional Engineering designation (P. Eng) preferred
- Five years management experience in Construction and Engineering Project Management preferably in a health care setting
- Excellent working knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control requirements as relates to construction and renovation projects in a hospital setting
- Demonstrated experience of the applicable Canadian Standards Association standards such as CSA Z317, CSA Z317.2, CSA Z317.1 etc.
- Effective management of multiple initiatives with competing priorities
- Excellent leadership and change management skills with the ability to develop and motivate effective performing teams
- Ongoing commitment to providing excellent customer services
- Excellent communication, facilitation and negotiation skills
- Well-developed conflict management skills and problem solving ability
- Demonstrated knowledge of the applicable legislation and standards related to the fields of engineering, construction and health-care facility design
- Effective analysis, strategy forming and reporting skills
- Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the Mission and Values of Unity Health
- Must have an excellent attendance record
