The Banks and Market Structure team is internationally located, with offices in New York, Toronto, London and Hong Kong. The client base is comprised of Canadian investment dealers, financial market infrastructure providers, Domestic and International Banks.

As a senior member of the GFIG team, the successful candidate will take a lead role in client relationship management, first-line risk management, mentorship, coaching and developing the team. The candidate will coordinate with other product areas as an integral part of a larger coverage team that maintains strong client relationships. Includes providing lending expertise to Banks and Market Structure clients, establishing credit facilities to support all relevant trading products, facilitating credit approvals in support of transaction banking products and presenting all products and solutions relevant to the Banks and Market Structure client base.

  • Generates significant revenue for the bank over a sustained period and recognizes revenue opportunities to cross-sell products and solutions for all areas of the bank:
  • Demonstrates ability to win business from new clients and develop new client relationships.
  • Oversees deal origination. Leads the deal team in executing pitches to prospective clients with efforts to maximize sector penetration and returns.
  • Develops and maintains strong client relationships with decision makers.
  • Provides clients with impactful strategic advice. Acts as a trusted advisor.
  • Collaborates with sector and product partners to generate ideas, identify client solutions, pursue sector marketing efforts, cover clients, and deliver timely solutions.
  • Leads and owns the credit, legal, operational, reputational, and all other risks as part of managing the portfolio of facilities deployed to support the Banks and Market Structure sector
  • Balances the Bank's risk appetite with the client needs in making recommendations/proposals.
  • Makes decisions based on a strong understanding of risks; effectively evaluates risk-return trade-offs, and proactively takes accountability for risks assumed.
  • Ensures that bank policies and guidelines applicable to the division are complied with.
  • Monitors client, client industry and regulatory agencies for potential changes which may affect client’s portfolio and business needs.
  • Prepares credit documentation (i.e. including applications, memoranda, presentations, etc.) for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provides outstanding deal structuring, business development, and other expertise and negotiates transactions with clients on highly complex deals.
  • Acts as the primary contact for internal/external stakeholder relationships, which may include regulators.
  • Completes due diligence and credit analysis on new and existing client relationships. May includes client visits, analysis of business models, and comprehensive review of industry trends and related regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Typically, 15+ years of relevant Banks and Market Structure experience in a Corporate & Investment Banking or Capital Markets environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Banks and Markets Structure industry.
  • Proven and independently verifiable client relationships within the Banks and Markets Structure industry. Technical and strategic leader within the industry.
  • Successful history of structuring, leading and underwriting a wide variety of corporate recourse credit facilities to the sector and tailored for the respective business model and asset class.
  • Managerial, change management and leadership experience, preferably with a large, cross-border located team.
  • Undergraduate degree has focal areas of finance, economics, or accounting preferred with high academic achievement.
  • MBA, CFA or equivalent experience in financial services, accounting and legal fields

Base salary for this role is $225,000 CAD. Total compensation is market competitive.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
