Senior Full Stack Developer

Job Summary We are seeking experienced Senior Full Stack Developers to support digital transformation initiatives across multiple ministries. The successful candidates will work on cross-functional Agile teams to deliver modern, user-centered digital services using human-centered design and modern software development practices. This is an exciting opportunity to build scalable, secure, and maintainable applications that improve government services for Albertans. Position Details Location: Remote within Canada (Occasional onsite meetings in Edmonton, AB) Employment Type: Full-Time Contract Contract Duration: 12 Months (Extension up to 24 additional months) Start Date: July–August 2026 (Staggered onboarding) Work Schedule: Full-Time (7.25 hours per day) Project Overview The successful candidates will contribute to large-scale digital transformation initiatives across multiple ministries. Working within Agile delivery teams, developers will modernize legacy government systems, enhance digital user experiences, and develop secure, scalable applications that better serve Albertans. Developers may support two to three concurrent projects while collaborating with Product Owners, UX Designers, Service Designers, researchers, and technical stakeholders. Key ResponsibilitiesResearch & Discovery Participate in user research, stakeholder interviews, and discovery workshops. Lead technical discovery activities. Produce architecture diagrams and technical documentation. Analyze business and technical requirements. Solution Design & Development Design, develop, test, and maintain full-stack applications. Build new features and enhance existing software solutions. Resolve functional and non-functional defects. Improve application quality through code reviews, documentation, and tooling enhancements. Develop scalable, secure, and maintainable software solutions. Collaboration Work closely with Product Owners, UX Designers, Service Designers, and Agile delivery teams. Collaborate with frontend designers to deliver consistent and accessible user experiences. Provide technical guidance and implementation recommendations. Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives. Deployment & Production Support Support application deployments and production releases. Participate in launch activities and post-deployment support. Contribute reusable components and shared platform capabilities. Assist with troubleshooting production issues. Continuous Improvement Maintain technical documentation. Support onboarding and mentoring of new developers. Improve coding standards, development processes, and quality practices. Promote reusable architecture and best software engineering practices. Required QualificationsEducation Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience Minimum 5 years of experience as a Full Stack Developer building complex enterprise applications. Minimum 5 years of experience using Git or similar version control systems in collaborative development environments. Minimum 3 years of experience developing production applications using modern application frameworks. Minimum 3 years of experience working with relational and NoSQL databases. Minimum 3 years of experience implementing automated unit and integration testing. Strong experience working in Agile/Scrum environments. Proficiency with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and server-side technologies such as Node.js or Python. Experience with modern front-end frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js. Strong understanding of database design and management (SQL and NoSQL). Preferred Qualifications Experience modernizing legacy applications into modern digital services. Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines. Knowledge of software architecture principles and design patterns. Experience collaborating with UX Designers, Service Designers, and Design Researchers. Experience using Generative AI or Agentic AI tools to improve software development or documentation. Experience working with one or more modern full-stack technology stacks. Work Environment Primarily remote within Canada. Occasional onsite meetings and workshops in Edmonton, Alberta. Some travel within Alberta may be required for user research and field activities. All work must be performed within Canada. Security Requirements Criminal Record Check may be required. Enhanced Security Clearance may be required for Justice-related assignments. Additional security clearances, including RCMP Top Secret Clearance, may be required during the engagement. Mandatory Training Successful candidates will complete Government of Alberta mandatory training, including: Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) Access to Information Act (ATIA) Security & Cybersecurity Information Management Respect in the Workplace Additional ministry-specific training as required Must-Haves Passion for technology and continuous learning.
