Position Summary

The Golf Players Assistant plays a key role in delivering an exceptional on-course experience for members and guests. This position is responsible for assisting with the daily on-course operation, including starting, marshalling, pace-of-play management, and other on-course needs as required. The Players Assistant works closely with the Golf Shop, Golf Course Coordinator, and Starters to ensure efficient operations, a consistent pace of play, and a welcoming atmosphere across the golf course.

This role is highly guest-facing and requires strong communication skills, professionalism, and a solid understanding of the game of golf.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage pace of play*, administering speed-of-play guidelines when required*
  • Act as a starter on the first tee as scheduled, pairing groups and communicating expectations
  • Marshal the golf course to ensure adherence to course policies, cart rules, and etiquette
  • Communicate regularly with the Golf Shop and Golf Course Coordinator regarding course conditions, delays, or guest concerns
  • Provide a high standard of guest service to all members and guests
  • Greet golfers proactively and create a positive, welcoming atmosphere on and around the course
  • Encourage awareness of Golf Shop merchandise and services
  • Ensure the Players Assistant cart is mechanically sound and report any maintenance concerns
  • Fill divots on teeing grounds and assist with light on-course upkeep as needed
  • Assist with any additional on-course or outside operations as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support overall golf operations

Compensation Structure – Membership Offset Program

This position includes a Golf Membership valued at $5,000.00 as part of the overall compensation package.

  • Hours worked will be tracked at $17.60 per hour*, with earnings applied toward the cost of the membership*
  • Once the full membership value has been offset through hours worked, the employee will then begin receiving hourly wages paid directly
  • This structure provides the opportunity to earn a full golf membership while gaining valuable on-course experience

Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to remain composed, professional, and objective under pressure
  • Proven customer service skills with the ability to resolve guest concerns effectively
  • Flexible availability, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to work independently while supporting a team-oriented environment

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma an asset
  • Previous golf experience preferred, or strong working knowledge of the game
  • Previous hospitality or customer service experience an asset
  • Solid understanding of golf rules, etiquette, and pace-of-play principles
  • Knowledge of golf equipment and merchandise considered an asset

Physical Aspects of the Position

  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in a variety of weather conditions
  • Comfortable driving a golf cart and walking the course regularly
