About the role
The Durham District School Board acknowledges that many Indigenous Nations have longstanding relationships, both historic and modern, with the territories upon which our school board and schools are located. Today, this area is home to many Indigenous peoples from across Turtle Island. We acknowledge that the Durham Region forms a part of the traditional and treaty territory of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation, the Mississauga Peoples and the treaty territory of the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation. Night School Supervisor - Non Credit Programs LOCATION: Durham Continuing Education, Oshawa
TIME: 6:00 P.M. to 9:30 P.M. – Monday, Tuesday and Thursday on-line, Wednesday evenings at McLaughlin CVI, Oshawa
Program Description Durham Continuing Education offers ESL/LINC on-line night school courses to a variety of learners. The International & Indigenous Languages Elementary Program also runs Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The classes are multi-level and students for this program can range in age from Junior Kindergarten age to grade 8 ages. These programs will be delivered in person at McLaughlin CVI in Oshawa.
Major Duties
- Deal with student, teacher, instructor, parent, guardian issues as they arise
- Supervise the ESL/LINC Programs and Instructors
- Provide ongoing support to instructors (e.g., teaching strategies, classroom management, resources)
- Supervise International & Indigenous Language Programs and Instructors;
- Manage the Physical Plant (assignment of rooms, co-ordination of school facilities);
- Provide ongoing support to instructors (e.g., teaching strategies, classroom management, resources)
- Supervise student IILE Volunteers
- Manage all aspects of the on-site delivery of the programs before, during, and after class;
- Ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff;
- Collaborate with the Night School Supervisor of Credit programs
- Support current DCE administration
Qualifications
- Avenue Stage 2 (minimum) Certification
- PBLA Certified
- Knowledge of ESL/LINC programming and CCLBs
- Knowledge of IILE programming
- Skilled in the application of the HARTS Registration System working knowledge
- Skilled in the application of PowerSchool
