Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant (“VA”) to provide care for animals within our Spay/Neuter clinic setting. This will include supporting the compassionate pre and post-op requirements of each animal. VA’s ensure a healthy environment for all our residents via routine grooming, housekeeping and disinfection accountabilities such as kennel cleaning and laundry. Although essential animal care and associated activities are the primary focus for this role, customer service and related client administrative duties are paramount to the clinic and therefore to the success of this position.
A Typical Day
- Welcome clients and their pets.
- Booking clients into Veterinary Clinic
- Greeting clients and answering general inquiries regarding pre and post-op care
- Providing pre and post op care to the animals in our trust, under the direction of the RVT’s and Veterinarians
- Handling and soothing animals during examinations, treatments, and vaccinations
- Recording relevant information about animals, including weight and types of medication given
- General housekeeping and/or disinfection of the clinic including sterilization of hospital/medical equipment, cleaning floors and counter tops, crates etc.
- Conduct animal transfers
Set up For Success
- Animal care experience
- High School Diploma (or equivalent) required
- Open availability including weekdays, weekends and holidays
- Ability to lift 18 kg (40lbs) and pull 45 kg (100 lbs)
- Valid G drivers’ licence with the ability to provide a clear driver’s abstract
- Team player
- Previous clerical training and an asset
- Customer service experience an asset
- Certificate or College Diploma in Animal Care or working towards, preferred
