About: The Centre for Civic Governance is hiring a full-time Events, Engagement, and Communications Officer. This is a hybrid and full-time position (37.5-hours a week, plus occasional evening and weekend work as required).
Location: Metro Vancouver area with local and regional travel
Salary: $76,210.93 with benefits
This is a one-year term position with the possibility of extension. To be eligible for this role, candidates need to be based in the Lower Mainland of B.C., and available to travel within the Metro Vancouver, and Vancouver Island areas, in addition to other possible locations, for meetings and events.
Role
Working closely with the CCG team, this position will be primarily responsible for event production, communications support, and engagement. The position reports to the Senior Program Officer.
Civic Governance
Execute and support our digital and in-person civic governance events, particularly our civic governance forum. This spring event inspires, informs, and connects progressive electeds (mayors, councilors, regional directors, and school trustees) from B.C. and across Canada, alongside union leaders and civil society experts, around inspiring policies and practices, informed research, and transformative actions. Other civic governance events include our digital webinar conversation series for local electeds and our networking reception and dialogue during UBCM, peer networking groups, in-person skills building training, and other organizational events. The position will also provide coordination support for other CCG projects and initiatives, such as Jobs for Today, a labour-led coalition working to advance a worker-centered low-carbon economy in B.C.
Communications and Engagement
Strengthen the organization’s communications and engagement efforts, to extend our reach to and engagement with local electeds, as well as Indigenous communities and community partners. Responsibilities include developing, coordinating and implementing our digital communication strategy and contact database; facilitating the marketing and coordination of our research and resources hub, creating engaging content for website and social media, email newsletters, and other platforms; translating research and resource findings into accessible content; supporting media outreach and advocacy campaigns; and, supporting fundraising and development.
Other Key Responsibilities
Support development and execution of strategic and operational plans; Draft and monitor event and program budgets; Support research and policy briefs; Support working groups as needed; Work collaboratively with partner organizations; Support outreach and relations with local electeds, as well as labour leaders, environmental organizations, Indigenous communities, etc.; Tabling and representing CCG at relevant events and conferences; Convene virtual conversation series, which entails introductions and occasional facilitation; Support project, initiative, and program development and maintenance; and Ad-hoc duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred experience: At least three years work experience in a relevant position such as Communications Coordinator, Engagement Specialist, Program Manager, or Event Planner.
Prior experience working with local government, labour movement, environmental
organizations, and/or Indigenous communities.
Strong project/ initiative and event coordination skills, including ability to
prioritize tasks. Excellent research, writing and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Demonstrated ability to work independently with little oversight.
Prior experience in volunteer management
