Position: Senior Manager, Design Reports to: Vice President, Product Position Term: Full Time Permanent Primary Location: Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Workplace Type: Remote (Within Canada) Job Purpose Designing a digital ecosystem to deliver goodness to the world, and the platform for many to reach our audience, necessitates a multidisciplinary approach. To deliver our mission, we are designing systems and tools that make giving and impact sharing through rewarding and discovery easy, while scaling to support the participation of the entire planet. We're building a diverse team with people of different backgrounds and experiences, empowered to shape strategy.

Our designers amplify their learning through psychological and social dynamics, communities and networks, and systems and policy design, in addition to more typical design skills. Design plays an important role in product strategy and direction. From ranking to UI, from internationalization to moderation systems, product design decisions are validated through A/B testing and user studies alike, as we emphasize rigor and empathy in equal measure. User researchers apply mixed methods to explore product opportunities and undertake disciplined investigations to solve product questions. Brand design provides support to the company and product, helping us tell our story better.

Responsibilities We’re seeking an experienced design leader with a track record of designing and building successful consumer internet products. The Senior Manager, Design will be the primary voice of design across all internal and external touchpoints of our WVC Brand. As the architect of a supporter-centric design strategy and vision, you will relentlessly focus on transforming and continuously improving the supporter experience, the organization, and your team through mentoring and enabling design experiences centered around our WVC staff & supporters. This leadership role will also set the tone for design and foster an environment that prioritizes trust, transparency, and thoughtful disagreement amongst team members accountable to always finding the best possible solution to improve their end-user and supporter experiences. The Senior Manager, Design will also demonstrate operational leadership by optimizing the overall design organization’s effectiveness across all touchpoints by working with cross-functional leaders and teams to manifest a consistent design vision across all WVC touchpoints.

This servant leader will ensure continuous alignment, focus, and supporter-centric design is being applied across the organization to execute a consistent look and visual voice to our WVC staff and supporters and support the organizational strategy and corresponding Objectives and Key Results. S/he will work independently and collaboratively on a wide range of projects ensuring their design strategy and voice is being applied. This role is intended to bring clarity, efficiency, and standardized methodical approaches to our overall WVC design approach.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Attract, retain, and develop a growing team of product and creative designers, user researchers through recruitment, mentorship, and coaching.
  • Collaborate with Senior Leadership and Product Management, quickly moving high-level product vision and strategy through road mapping, planning and execution.
  • Contribute to products through coaching and persuasively representing WVC’s design voice cross-functionally to set and hold our standards.
  • Foster a data-driven design culture that ensures the health of our products, UX, and business goals.
  • You are WVC’s champion of accessible design principles and implementation.
  • Transform your Design Team and the WVC Organization through Design-led thinking.

Qualifications You’re in love with customer-centric design and its potential to transform an organization:

  • You’ve demonstrated how design can lead and transform a brand and business.
  • Extensive design experience (10+ years) in either design-led organizations or agencies.
  • 5+ years’ experience in positions of design leadership with proven track record.
  • Experience in 5+ major product (or portfolio) releases.

You’re a design thinker grounded in data driven insights to improve experiences:

  • Able to design distinctive, intuitive creative artifacts (e.g., wireframes, task flows, screen mock-ups, prototypes).
  • Expert command of industry-standard design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, InVision)
  • Experience conducting user research and user testing.
