What This Position is About:

Working collaboratively with the Dean, faculty and staff, the Academic Chair develops and implements goals and objectives in alignment with the College¿s Strategic and Academic Plan and is responsible for the providing academic leadership and management of the School¿s day-to-day operations. The Academic Chair provides leadership in academic processes, including new program development, program review, quality assurance, and external accreditation processes ensuring a focus on the needs of students and employers in the labour market. They also contribute to the development of the School budget and multi-year capital plan. The Academic Chair is responsible for the organization and facilitation of Program Advisory Committee meetings and the implementation of outcomes. The Academic Chair recruits, supervises, and develops full-time and contract faculty and provides leadership and direction for workload assignments of the School. Through exemplary leadership, engagement, mentoring, support and communication, the Academic Chair models the values of responsiveness, innovation, collaboration, inclusiveness and accountability that are inherent in the Strategic plan. The Academic Chair participates on various cross-College committees, in collaboration with the Dean, seeks out, and fosters partnerships with industry, the community and other educational institutions.

What We Are Looking For:

Completion of a Masters Degree in a relevant discipline such as Business, Engineering or Science.

A minimum of seven (7) years of progressive leadership experience, preferably in an academic setting, combined with professional experience in a field or discipline relevant to the field or discipline.

  • Relevant post-secondary teaching experience that involved preparation, teaching, and evaluation of students. A strong understanding of the processes of learning and teaching, with experience in curriculum design, development, and multiple modes of delivery at the post-secondary level as well as knowledge of learning design and innovative teaching and learning strategies.
  • Exemplary attention to detail, superior organizational and planning skills, and the ability to prioritize and continuously multi-task.
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, and workload development.
  • Experience supervising professional staff within a unionized environment.
  • Proven experience developing creative solutions to complex operational problems with evidence of strong decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to connect operational tasks to strategic priorities and the capacity to adjust the approach in response to internal and external pressures.
  • A deep commitment to professional development in your area of expertise, teaching and learning, as well as in leadership.
  • Personal values that demonstrate integrity, responsibility, courage, forgiveness, and empathy.
  • A deep commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in the classroom and workplace coupled with a kind, empathetic, and respectful approach to daily interactions with all individuals.
  • Strong ability to thoughtfully communicate the context regarding decisions and direction of the School with direct reports, internal partners, and external partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and foster collaborative working relationships with direct reports and internal / external partners to mediate and resolve conflict and to empower teams to achieve success.
  • Demonstrated commitment to guiding, developing, and coaching employees¿ professional development to facilitate change, ensure employee engagement, and to inspire and motivate a team.
