Position Overview Resumes are being accepted for the position of Senior Transit Operations Advisor, within Guelph Transit, reporting to the Manager, Transit Operations. This position will support the delivery, performance, and continuous improvement of transit services. This role will provide expert guidance on operational planning, service optimization, and policy development to ensure safe, efficient, and customer-focused transit operations. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in public transit operations, stakeholder collaboration, and data-driven decision-making. Guided by the goals and objectives of the City’s Strategic Plan and committed to the Corporate Values of integrity, service, inclusion, wellness and learning, the candidate will aid in the achievement of the Vision for an inclusive, connected and prosperous city. Key duties and responsibilities Provides oversight to Route Supervisors in a 24/7 environment Provides training to Route Supervisors Participates in/supports employee processes Backs up Route Supervisors Backs up Manager of Operations Develops and recommends operating policies, work programs, long- and short-term plans, budgets, SOPs, service modifications, and transit operations Advises on operational and administrative policies and procedures, and leads/participates in program reviews Participates on internal committees and work groups to identify immediate and future priorities and stay current on trends and developments (legislation, technology, etc.) Investigates, recommends, and implements innovative strategies to deliver high-quality, economical services Provides input to Manager of Operations to plan, manage, and maintain cost-efficient and effective daily operations (staffing, service delivery, training, quality assurance, hiring) Monitors service, performance, quality assurance, service planning, and reporting, and makes recommendations on improvements Assesses incident and collision reports, according to functional area Responds to customer complaints Identifies areas for improvement, develops action plans, and manages follow-up Analyzes and evaluates performance and quality assurance activities to ensure operational requirements are met, in collaboration with the Manager Identifies service gaps and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives Provides input to Manager of Operations to develop and monitor budget Prepares and presents communications for staff (reports, memos, etc.) Participates in activities to improve divisional collaboration Contributes in Supervisor and senior management meetings Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications and requirements Completion of a post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate. Considerable experience in a transit or transportation setting. Experience in motivating, training, and supervising staff in a unionized, sensitive environment. A valid Class BZ drivers licence with a good driving record or the ability to get it within 6 months from your start date. Successful candidates will be required to provide a current driver’s abstract and CVOR prior to their start date to confirm their licence is held in good standing and that it has not been suspended or revoked under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) or Criminal Code of Canada in the last 3 years. The City of Guelph will take into consideration the number of demerit points and/or nature of the infractions to determine if it meets our requirements. Excellent customer service skills and multi-tasking with the ability to resolve customer inquiries/complaints in an effective manner. Excellent analytical and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments in order to meet deadlines in a very demanding customer service focus environment. Ability to communicate with all levels of staff, stakeholders and the general public. Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook Access). A team player with excellent leadership skills. Ability to analyze problems, identify alternatives and make recommendations in order to implement procedures and policies. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Knowledge of the Highway Traffic Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Experience with a CAD/AVL operations management system such as Trapeze would be considered an asset. Ability to think strategically while managing day-to-day operational priorities Candidates with equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
