About the role

The role of the Communications department is to develop and lead strategic communications through storytelling, earned media, and third party partnerships to reach and engage new consumers more frequently. The Communications Manager will be tasked with leading strategy and execution for communications across the Red Bull Network in Canada. They will be responsible for effectively positioning and delivering communication messages across various third-party and owned media channels (social media, web, TV, radio, and print) to bring our brand to life and establish Red Bull as relevant to our target audiences.

The Manager of Communications serves as the ‘conductor of the orchestra’ whereby we see the big picture, bring a (first) touch point for our consumers into our world through Earned Media and guarantee a strong message pull through in all media based on the brand’s positioning. They take full responsibility for earned media activation for Sports/Culture/Brand projects, content initiatives and beverage product innovations. Relationship building through traditional third-party and social media amplification.

All the responsibilities we'll trust you with: COMMUNICATIONS PROJECT EXECUTION Ensure that the regional communication plans utilize the most effective and efficient media tactics to drive earned media coverage, both traditional and earned social media, reaching new consumers daily across the portfolios you lead. Develop national/regional strategic editorial media partnerships that improve the consumer experience and brand credibility. Develop a strong network of editors, journalists, freelance writers, social media producers, and photographers to effectively bring content to life. Prepare press materials, media alerts and earned media content packages for regular distribution. Be the eyes and ears outside our walls to evaluate emerging trends in Brand, Culture and Sports across the nation, identifying potential opportunities for Red Bull to more effectively target consumer groups. Responsible for ongoing activities such as athlete stories and national year-long campaigns. Identify and constantly reflect the most important Media That Matter in the market to help drive impactful word-of-mouth about the Red Bull brand. Create immersive experiences for media utilizing Red Bull tools and access points. Management of supporting communication agencies and freelance network within budget parameters. Brief athletes, photographers and production companies on brand approach and product integration for all content creation.

COMMUNICATIONS STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP Act as strategic lead for all media initiatives while project managing both inside and outside the Media Network. Be the architect of our communications strategy by creating, orchestrating and executing messaging with precision and vision Define the objectives, goals, hooks, headlines and strategies for each project. Identify story opportunities coming from Sports, Culture and Brand Marketing and facilitate the translation of marketing ideas into engaging media products and executable campaigns that drive positive word-of-mouth with our consumers. Collaborate with the field marketing and regional marketing teams to identify and develop ideas with strong media potential. Manage relationships with heads of departments and Global HQ counterparts to ensure alignment and achieve business success. Lead innovation in the skillset of Communications, and build strategies that drive value for the business beyond awareness alone.

REPORTING & MEDIA MEASURING Measure audience reach outcome using analytic tools and report results to all contributors. Build learnings docs that compare media impressions, engagements and relative media platform reach and sentiment. Make decisions based on data and insights.

Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role:

  • Minimum 5 years communications and/or public relations experience; with particular background in sports, culture and/or CPG brands.
  • A communications professional with proven experience building and maintaining strong media relationships, with knowledge of the Canadian media landscape being an asset.
  • Equipped to build media and third party partnerships in all fields.
  • A proven track record in leading teams, project management and securing brand reach & engagement via earned media amplification.
  • Strong presentation, communication (verbal & written), organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in negotiation, influence, and relationship management.
  • Works with passion and has high affinity with the worlds of Sports and Culture.
  • Possesses a solid understanding of current media trends and emerging media channels.
  • Self-motivated, capable of following through on assigned responsibilities, anticipating needs, and employing problem-solving skills.
  • An agile, team player that knows how to get the work done.
  • Proficiency Microsoft suite of tools; PowerPoint, Teams, Word, Excel.
