TRANSIT MECHANIC “A” Permanent, Full-time Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, West Vancouver is a vibrant community on the North Shore and home to parks, beaches, and to sports, recreation and arts amenities. West Vancouver Transit has an immediate opening for one permanent full-time Transit Mechanic “A”. This position is responsible for mechanical maintenance and repair work at the journeyperson level. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position will be responsible for: performing mechanical overhaul, repair, and maintenance tasks on transit vehicles in the shop or in the field, completing a variety of complex mechanical assessments; diagnosing various electronic components by performing diagnostic testing and troubleshooting using relevant computer software; submitting reports and maintaining records; performing a variety of gas and electrical welding tasks; and other related work as required.

The successful candidate will possess, or have the ability to obtain and retain:

  • Red Seal Trades Qualification in Commercial Transport Mechanics or Heavy Duty
  • Commercial Vehicle Inspection Certificate with air brake endorsement
  • Class 2 or 3 Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement

Additional requirements for this position include a minimum of five years' relevant experience; current knowledge of diesel engine and transmission electronic control systems; possession of own hand tools; air conditioning courses; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Position Status Union (ATU) – Permanent, Full-time

Hours Of Work 40 hours per week

4 days on/3 consecutive days off (consistent workweek and schedule)

Rate Of Pay $55.96 per hour - Red Seal Rate * Plus tool allowance (Plus: $1.95/hr shift differential for afternoon shifts and Sunday pay premiums and a retention allowance)

Total Compensation Overview Attractive Health & Welfare Benefits Package (including single, couple & family options for, Extended Health, Dental, Sick Leave & Life Insurance) 6 weeks of paid leave (prorated includes vacation & shorter work year)
