The Structural Designer Level 1 is responsible for producing high-quality work, ensuring compliance with design standards, and meeting work deadlines. This role focuses on reviewing and creating structural and sheet metal designs that meet customer specifications and manufacturing capabilities, while ensuring safety, fit, and structural integrity. It involves collaborating with designers, providing engineering support to production, and preparing bills of materials and cut sheets for purchasing and assembly. Structural Designer Level 1 typically works on smaller projects and receives frequent instruction and direction from Structural Designer Levels 2 and 3.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in the creation and modification of structural and sheet metal designs in compliance with customer specifications and design standards.
- Work closely with Structural Designers Levels 2 and 3 to ensure designs are structurally sound and fit for manufacturing.
- Learn and adhere to applicable regulations, design criteria, and safety standards
- Assist and review designs from structural designers as required
- Provide engineering support to Production and other departments
- Collaborate closely with the internal design team members and Plant Supervisors
- Assist in the preparation of basic bills of materials and cut sheets.
- actively seek mentorship from more experienced designers.
- Assist structural designers Levels 2 and 3, when directed
- Assist in other related tasks
Job Qualifications:
- Structural or Civil Engineering Technologist (3-year college diploma)
- Structural design experience, preferably within HVAC is an asset
- Proficient in Solid Works, AutoCAD, Revit, Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, EPDM.
- Friendly personality, respectful of co-workers and be able to work with individuals as part of a team
- Able to multitask and work efficiently in a demanding environment
- Motivated self-starter with high level of initiative and able to work independently
- Problem-solving, organizational and time management skills
- Able to take directions and communicate with others
- Able to attend work on a regular basis
- Able to meet the physical and sensory demands of the position
- Able to travel domestically and internationally.

Contacts:
- Internal engineering and shop staff and contractors to exchange information, answer questions and problem solve.
Effort (Physical & Sensory):
- Perform work sitting and using computers for 8-10 hours per day
- Regular standing, walking, sitting, use of fine motor skills
- Occasional light lifting during the course of performing tasks
- Regular vision/sensory demands: close, distance, peripheral, depth, and able to adjust focus.
Working Conditions:
- Occasional exposure to moderate noise levels when out in the plant environment
