THE OPPORTUNITY

In the role of Circuit Delayering Specialist you will be responsible for the fragile and precise preparation and imaging of planar samples for circuit analysis projects. You will regularly, and safely, use chemical and mechanical processes to expose external structures and use specialized scanning electron microscopes (SEM) to image these samples. Other aspects of the role will include your participation in various process lab tasks, such as depoting of samples from the packages, and cross-sections of samples in preparation for relevant projects. As a Circuit Delayering Specialist you will have the opportunity to work to varying degrees across multiple technologies and process nodes.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Prepare and evaluate samples for engineering analysis

  • Understand and clarify customer requirements to produce quality samples
  • Depot samples for projects, and prepare cross-section samples for projects
  • Use appropriate chemical or mechanical lab methods to prepare planar SEM samples
  • Image planar samples with SEM imaging systems to produce image sets
  • Interact with both Image Processing and Circuit Engineering teams to ensure sample and image quality throughout each project · Produce high quality comprehensive reports
  • Coordinate lab tasks, subscription and/or fee for service projects

Adapt and optimize sample techniques and processes

  • Evaluate alternative processes and optimize techniques to adapt to new sample technologies
  • Work with R&D team to develop and improve sample preparation techniques, methods and recipes

Contribute to and ensure continuous improvement in process and quality

  • Train and assist junior team members

  • Support teammates by reviewing quality of work output

  • Identify and suggest process improvements to enhance efficiency and quality

  • Keep up to date on latest tools and new techniques

  • Share ideas, successes and issues with colleagues and manager

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field · Willingness to work flexible hours, as this position requires shiftwork that may be early morning or evening hours.
  • Knowledge and experience with a variety of tools, equipment and processes used in the lab
  • Experience in chemical lab environment and processes used for sample preparation · Experience with lab sample preparation techniques
  • Working knowledge of electronic products and components
  • Experience using optical microscopes and x-ray equipment, and SEMs
  • Working knowledge of electronic component types, including integrated circuits, integrated circuit packaging, printed circuit boards
  • Knowledge of health and safety protocols, including WHMIS
  • Highly skilled with time management and the ability to prioritize to meet all deadlines
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to multitask, and excellent communication skills

  • This role is on-site at our Ottawa office.
  • This position is on our 6:00am – 2:00pm lab shift.
