##Position Description

Lactation Consultant

Here's What You'll Get To Do:

You will enhance the well-being of mothers and infants by the promotion and support of breastfeeding through education of breastfeeding information. Your primary responsibility will be to provide breastfeeding consultation for complex medical/ surgical infants at the request of a parent or staff member and to implement on-going feeding plans. You will also support the establishment and maintenance of breast milk when the baby is not able to feed at the breast. You will integrate breastfeeding education information to the health care team, participate in the development of breastfeeding-related standards or protocols. You will assist with the coordination of breastfeeding supplies and equipment throughout the hospital.

Here's What You'll Need:

  • A regulated health care professional background is required. A Registered Nursing degree is considered an asset.
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant with a minimum of 2 years maternal/child breastfeeding support.
  • Advocate for family-centred care, who is able to role model and teach breastfeeding to new staff and parents.
  • Ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication skills and must be self-directed, organized, and be able to function as an independent practitioner as well as part of a team.
  • A commitment to understanding and aiding in the pursuit of equity, diversity and inclusion objectives.

**Employment Type:**Casual, no guaranteed hours focused on maintaining coverage and building future capacity, with 6-8 initial orientation shifts required. 0.00 FTE
