Under the direction of the Technical Applications Manager, you will be responsible for managing and supporting product applications for sales of our commercial portfolio. As part of this team, you will develop strong relationships with our external business partners, manufacturer representatives, specifying engineers, and design consultants to secure approvals for basis of design, enhance market presence, and expand sales. You will interact regularly with our field sales team, channel partners, and other key stakeholders across the region, in support of opportunity development and sales conversions, new product development, and core product innovation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Product Development & Production support:
- Understand and apply all relevant safety and performance codes and standards such as CSA, UL, ASHRAE and AHRI
- Participate in researching for future technologies and product development
- CAD design of new components to support product development
- Technical support for Product Selection Software development
- Provide technical support and training on new changes in product development
- Provide technical data to Sales and Channel Partners as required (performance data, customer requirements, etc.)
- Product application support:
- Coil selection based on the bid schedule and customer requirements
- Fan selection and sizing based on the unit configuration, airflow and total static pressure
- Exterior Louver sizing based on the unit configuration, airflow and the louver manufacturer’s cut sheet
- ERW and plate core performance and payback calculations
- Rear plenum sizing based on the airflow, ESP and job site conditions
- Responding to the general sales teams’ inquiries on the unit configurations, components, control sequences, sound data, and overall product configurations
- Work as a liaison and support between Engineering Group and Sales/Production/Support/Service Teams on released products and newly released products
- Complete other duties as directed by the Technical Applications Manager
Skills, Education, and/or Experience
The following are education and experience criteria used to evaluate the suitability of the Sales Application Engineer Profile for candidates for the position:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline is highly preferred.
- Background in Engineering or Technical Sales with a focus in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automation will be considered.
- Have at least 3 - 7 years of experience in a Sales Engineer, Applications Engineer, or Technical Sales role within OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers, or high-volume manufacturing.
- Proven experience in commercial HVAC equipment sales including configured products, custom air handling products, fresh air ventilators, or Commercial/Industrial fans including jet, axial, and centrifugal applications is a value add.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze data and sales statistics and translate results into better solutions.
- Strong ethical standards and a high level of integrity.
- Self-directed and motivated to achieve results.
- Strong active listening and communication skills.
- Microsoft Office experience.
- Working knowledge of MS Dynamics CRM, Salesforce, or other CRM.
Job Conditions
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and looking at a computer.
- Light physical effort – able to lift up to 20lbs at times.
- Sitting, lifting, squatting, pushing, or reaching for intermittent or extended periods.
- Occasional travel requirements will exist for training, meetings, events, and business opportunities. Full time travel is not a requirement.
Work Environment:
- Factory, Warehouse, Distribution Center, Office.
- May be exposed to loud, repetitive sounds from machinery or equipment.
- May use chemicals or other in accordance with MSDS.
- May operate machinery in close proximity or with objects exposed to eyes or face.
