About the role

March 1, 2000

Norpak Handling Limited, a Port Hope based material handling systems integrator, is pleased to announce a major expansion of their business interests. Agreement has been reached for Norpak to purchase the assets of the conveyor division of B. C. Conveying Machinery Limited of Vancouver. The company was originally founded in the late 1920’s and has been a mainstay of the western Canada material handling industry since 1931. The company serves a wide variety of customers in the warehousing, airport, forestry and industrial sectors.

A new company known as BC Conveying/Norpak came into existence on January 1st. of this year. It operates from new offices located in the Vancouver suburb of Delta. Mr. John Simpson has been appointed General Manager. John was previously a principal of B.C. Conveying Machinery and is a grandson of the original company founder. Mr. Simpson believes the tie in with Norpak is a natural expansion for both companies. “We have the experience and sales staff to cover B.C, Alberta and into Washington and Oregon” he stated. “Norpak have the design expertise and applications knowledge required to solve our customers’ specific conveyor requirements.”

Gamey Lycett, Senior Vice President of Norpak notes he has worked with the BC organization for 30 years. “I am especially pleased this first major expansion by Norpak can be with a company and family so well known and respected in the industry.”

Stewart Raynor, President of Norpak, believes the tie with BC Conveying is a perfect fit. He feels the corporate goals and value systems of both organizations are closely matched. “This move, combined with our recent announcement of the opening of a Montreal office will allow Norpak to grow from a regional supplier into a major national systems integrator” he stated.
