Roles & Responsibilities:
- Ensure all freight is dispatched to the correct destination within required time windows and network routing standards
- Direct tractor and shunt drivers in real time using the TMS system, coordinating the live flow of loaded and empty trailers across multiple doors within the yard.
- Monitor yard operations and trailer status to optimize dock availability, minimize congestion, and support terminal flow for unloading and loading inbound freight.
- Maintain consistent communication with drivers, internal teams, and external clients.
- Dispatch deliveries, pre-plan offloading of containers/trailers, and schedule appointments.
- Update the AS400 system with accurate arrival times of inbound units.
- Assist customers with shipment tracking and serve as a liaison between customers and dispatch.
- Create, communicate, schedule, and manage driver and delivery schedules.
- Perform clerical and administrative tasks to ensure smooth information flow within the operations department.
- Book in-bound delivery appointments and scan all required documentation.
- Monitor yard operations in real time, coordinating trailer movements and dock assignments.
- Liaise with shunt drivers and gatehouse staff to optimize trailer flow and minimize yard congestion.
- Respond promptly to load changes, driver delays, and dock constraints throughout the shift.
- Support terminal-to-terminal dispatch flow, ensuring accurate and efficient overnight freight routing.
- Complete additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, results-driven, and a collaborative team player. The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Minimum of 1–3 years’ experience in a dispatch role.
- Experience with AS400 system is an asset.
- Demonstrated customer service and data entry experience.
- Excellent communication skills, including strong command of English, and effective interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure, time-sensitive freight environment.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
- Capability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with hub and spoke freight models or terminal-based sortation operations is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in linehaul dispatch or hub operations at a courier, freight, or transportation company.
- Experience in real-time yard management or dispatching within high-volume freight environments.
Additional Requirements
- Must thrive in a fast-paced, task-intensive position requiring situational awareness, coordination, and follow-through
- Flexible availability to accommodate vacation coverage and operational needs
- Work out of the facility and gatehouse, with the ability to lift up to 70 lbs
- Comfortable working in an office area that is not fully insulated but equipped with heating and air conditioning
