Research Assistant I - Science

About the role

Provides a variety of support to researcher(s) in the Faculty of Science.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides a variety of research support such as:

  • Reviewing relevant scientific literature.

  • Collecting field and/or laboratory samples.

  • Analyzing field and/or laboratory samples using laboratory/field analytical equipment.

  • Performing statistical analysis of laboratory/field data.

  • Compiling results of analyses in data bases.

  • Assist with similar research being carried out by other researchers.

This position focuses on computational tasks including software programming, genomic data processing, machine learning, and website design. The goal is to develop automated pipelines and software tools that assist clinicians in accurately diagnosing and classifying diseases. I am seeking a developer proficient in Python or R and web development to create software, process genomic data, and implement machine learning solutions that assist clinicians in advancing cancer diagnosis and classification.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • Grade 12, plus graduation from a relevant four year science degree program

EXPERIENCE

  • Six months' related experience.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR ABILITIES RELATED TO THE JOB

  • Ability to perform analyses using a variety of analytical equipment

  • Ability to deal with others effectively

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

  • Ability to plan and organize work

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Working in laboratory and fields situations as required.
  • Standing/sitting for long periods of time
  • Travel within BC
