The schedule for this position is 8:30 am to 1:45 pm for the current school year.
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Under the supervision of the school principal, the StrongStart Early Learning Facilitator will be expected to:
- Create a learning environment that is inclusive of local Indigenous culture, language and knowledge
- Create a welcoming learning community where every child and family feel they belong
- Organize rich play-based activities guided by BC's Early Learning Framework
- Provide play areas that promote creativity and exploration, including individual and group play activities and large muscle play activities
- Provide opportunities for parents/caregivers to observe and practice activities that support early learning
- Share relevant community resource and support information with families
- Create and maintain accurate StrongStart BC data and records, including assigning a Personal Education Number (PEN) for each child attending
- Collect enrolment and attendance information about the children attending the program
- Use the MyEducation BC system to report enrolment and attendance data to the Province.
- Assist with budgeting related to the program
- Exercise discretion and confidentiality in dealing with all matters pertaining to personnel and students.
- Other duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:
- Grade 12 or equivalent education
- A certified Early Childhood Educator (ECE) with a current license to practice
- A valid Child Safe First Aid Certificate
- A clear Criminal Record check, completed prior to hiring
- An understanding of local Indigenous culture and commitment to embedding that in program planning
- An understanding of BC's Early Learning Framework
- Experience in creating, planning, implementing and budgeting for a parent participation early learning program
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with a variety of parents, children, professionals and community members
- Knowledge of child development, family dynamics, local community resources and early learning
- A valid class 5 driver's license
