About The Role
Key Responsibilities
Shadow and support experienced CYCWs during daily residential care routines, personal care tasks, meal preparation, and household activities Observe and assist in the implementation of individualized support plans and behaviour strategies under direct staff supervision Engage positively and consistently with children and youth, building rapport in a safe, structured manner Support youth participation in cultural activities, community outings, and recreational programming Assist with accurate shift documentation including daily logs and basic progress notes as directed Attend team meetings, handover briefings, and any assigned training sessions Demonstrate professional conduct, appropriate boundaries, and respect for confidentiality at all times

Who We're Looking For
We are looking for a compassionate, skilled, and adaptable Child & Youth Care Worker to join the Mahikan Lodge team. The ideal candidate brings both formal training and hands-on experience supporting children and youth with complex neurodivergent needs, including ASD, PTSD, ADHD, ADD, ODD & intergenerational trauma. You understand that behaviours are a form of communication, and you meet each child where they are — with curiosity, consistency, and care.

Leads with empathy and patience in high-support environments
Is confident supporting children and youth during emotional dysregulation and complex behavioural presentations
Values cultural humility and understands the importance of Indigenous identity in healing and connection
Communicates clearly and professionally with families, caseworkers, and interdisciplinary teams
Thrives in a collaborative, team-based residential setting
Is committed to client autonomy and advocates for each young person in their home, school, and community
Minimum Requirements
Currently enrolled in a CYCW diploma program (Year 1 or 2 preferred)
Police Check
Police Information Check — issued within 6 months
Child Intervention
Child Intervention Record Check — issued within 6 months
CPR / First Aid
Level C — current (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
Driver's Licence
Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence
Driver's Abstract
Clear 3-year driver's abstract — dated within 6 months
Vehicle
Reliable personal vehicle with third-party liability insurance

Mandatory Requirements
