About the role

Job Description:

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Manager, provides regional expertise on Physiotherapy professional practice standards and practice issues across Island Health service areas. Is accountable to ensure staff across disciplines and sectors attain excellence through the assessment, development, provision and evaluation of clinical and educational strategies that support and improve patient/client centered care and outcomes.

Develops, implements and evaluates guidelines, practice standards and associated resources and instruments for achieving and maintaining professional standards throughout the continuum of health services as required by service area. Collaborates with colleagues in other disciplines and service areas to ensure appropriate staff development and participation in education, research, accreditation, utilization management and continuous quality improvement initiatives within Island Health portfolios and other jurisdictions.

Accountable to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).

Travel is a requirement of this position and transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Training And Experience

  • Current licensure in a practicing category with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC as a Physiotherapist
  • Post secondary courses in Adult Education, Process Improvement and/or Change Management
  • Three (3) or more years of direct experience in adult education, quality improvement and/or policy/procedural development
  • Experience working with Indigenous groups and fostering Indigenous relations with a focus on Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action
  • Knowledge of program relevant legislation, policies and standards
  • Knowledge of current, evidence-based gerontological issues and standards
  • Valid BC Driver's License

An equivalent combination of Training and Experience may be considered.

  • Effective interpersonal, organizational and teaching skills.

  • Ability to communicate with clients and their families, physicians and colleagues from within Island Health as well as external organizations.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
