About the Role

We are looking for a technically skilled and strategically minded Lead, AI and Data Platforms to support and evolve our enterprise-grade AI and data platforms. This role is critical in ensuring the operational excellence, cost efficiency, and observability of platforms that power advanced analytics, machine learning, and data-driven decision-making across the organization.

As part of a financial institution, you will play a key role in maintaining the integrity, performance, and compliance of platforms that support sensitive and regulated workloads.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide Level 2 operational support for AI and data platforms, ensuring high availability, performance, and security.
  • Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and service restoration efforts for platform-related issues.
  • Implement and enhance observability practices (monitoring, alerting, logging) to proactively manage platform health.
  • Collaborate with FinOps teams to monitor and optimize cloud and infrastructure spend, ensuring cost transparency and accountability.
  • Contribute to platform strategy, roadmap development, and capacity planning aligned with business and regulatory needs.
  • Support compliance, data governance, and risk management initiatives in partnership with security and audit teams.
  • Maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and knowledge-sharing resources.
  • Mentor junior team members and promote operational excellence and automation.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in platform operations, DevOps, or infrastructure roles, ideally within financial services or other regulated industries.
  • Hands-on experience with AI/ML platforms (e.g., Databricks, SageMaker, Azure ML) and data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Azure Synapse).
  • Strong understanding of observability tools and practices (e.g., Dynatrace, New Relic, Grafana, Splunk).
  • Familiarity with FinOps principles and cloud cost management in multi-cloud or hybrid environments.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g. Ansible, Python, Bash, Terraform, PowerShell).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, configuration-as-code, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across technical and business teams.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with MLOps frameworks and orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Kubeflow).
  • Knowledge of ITIL practices and service management tools (e.g., ServiceNow).
  • Exposure to enterprise architecture, regulatory compliance, and data privacy standards (e.g., PIPEDA, GDPR).

Salary:

$94,600.00 - $176,000.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
