Program Specialist - Dance Child/Youth

About the role

Do you have a passion for teaching and inspiring others to dance?

The City Arts Centre is currently looking for enthusiastic Dance Instructors to teach child/youth dance classes. As an instructor, you must be confident and competent in your field and wish to share your skills. You will be required to plan, prepare and teach lessons to a variety of students with varying skill levels. If you have a passion and skill for dance and teaching, this is the job for you!

What will you do?

  • Develop lesson plans that are skill level appropriate over 8 to 10 week classes
  • Prepare classroom setting and supplies for each day or weekly class
  • Facilitate and engage students of all ages in creative dance
  • Create and deliver performing arts activities such as dance
  • Actively engage in the safety, well-being, and development of students
  • Maintain the highest level of health and safety standards at City Arts Centre and its outreach facilities
  • Communicate regularly with coordinators and facility staff
  • Attend seasonal in-services, mock emergency sessions and other training as necessary
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 12
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Demonstrated knowledge of technical aspects of various dance styles; ballet, hip hop, jazz, contemporary, and more
  • Experience teaching dance class for all ages in a recreational setting

Assets:

  • Minimum 1 year of post-secondary education from a recognized institution in a field related to dance

Skills required for success:

  • Effective communication skills and ability to act professionally in a classroom setting
  • Ability to interact and engage with students, in addition to maintaining a safe environment
  • Knowledge of all technical aspects of various dance styles
  • Experience teaching all ages and experience in dance styles
  • Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton

Conditions of Employment:

  • Hire is dependent on Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
  • Possession of current Standard First Aid, CPR-C and AED certifications are required
  • Applicants may be tested

Work Environment:

  • Availability to work evenings and weekends is required
  • Note: Due to the nature of this work, this position is not eligible for a hybrid work arrangement
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement, and the incumbent will be notified in advance
  • This is a public-facing role and requires engagement and interaction with diverse people from various backgrounds with different needs, expectations and emotional states
  • This role works primarily in an indoor setting

Up to 2 ongoing temporary part-time positions Hours of Work : Up to 15 hrs. per week

Salary Range : $31.500 - $52.500 (Hourly)
