Registered Orthopaedic Technologist, Fracture Clinic

Toronto, Ontario
Mid Level
contract

About the role

Advance your orthopaedic skillset through exposure to a broad and complex range of orthopaedic injuries and treatment techniques. As an Orthopaedic Technologist, you will collaborate closely with surgeons, residents, and interdisciplinary staff in a high-volume academic teaching hospital setting. Our clinic provides access to complex trauma, reconstructive and post-operative cases that are not typically available in smaller clinics. Active involvement in physician-directed reductions and post-surgical care will deepen your clinical judgment over time. If you’re ready to pair clinical development with real opportunities to teach, learn, and contribute to research, this role makes that possible.

Is this you? Are you able to think clearly and move confidently when scenarios change? Orthopaedic cases can range from scheduled follow-ups to urgent trauma care, and Technologists must move seamlessly between them. Your ability to calmly reassess, adjust, and keep moving is essential to maintaining patient flow and clinical safety. Whether educating a patient on cast care or supporting post-operative follow-ups or wound checks, you reorient smoothly while keeping care on track. This adaptability strengthens our team’s collaboration while helping ensure patients receive timely support through each stage of their journey.

If you’re driven to help patients feel informed and supported during moments of uncertainty, you’ll thrive in this setting where reassurance and education shape every patient interaction. Many of our patients are experiencing pain or anxiety, unsure of what lies ahead. By clearly explaining procedures and setting realistic expectations, you create a sense of calm and partnership in their care. In practice, this may involve reviewing proper limb positioning after casting, discussing mobility limitations, and reinforcing when to contact the clinic. Through these educational moments, you empower patients to take an active role in their recovery while building trust and lasting rapport with the care team.

You combine strong clinical assessment skills with critical thinking. Your ability to identify early signs of complications such as swelling, skin breakdown, or pressure points and escalate them appropriately will play a vital role in timely intervention. The value of your input extends beyond immediate patient care, feeding directly into interdisciplinary rounds and case reviews. Each contribution strengthens decision-making and reinforces a team approach that keeps patients moving toward recovery. This is a setting where analytical thinking and collaboration are strongly valued.

About This Team The Fracture Clinic at Mount Sinai Hospital provides comprehensive care for patients with broken bones, dislocations, and soft tissue injuries. Our clinic manages roughly 80–100 patients daily, balancing acute and follow-up care with the precision required in an academic teaching-hospital setting. Patients are typically referred from the Emergency Department or community physicians for both acute and follow-up orthopaedic care. Treatments include casting, splinting, custom bracing, wound care, and coordination for surgical follow-up. Our multidisciplinary team of orthopaedic surgeons, residents, technologists, nurses, and clerical staff work side by side to support patient flow and ensure continuity between procedures, assessments, and recovery. Collaboration extends beyond the clinic room, with team members sharing expertise through active education, mentorship, and case discussions. The result is an environment defined by teamwork, adaptability, and clinical excellence.
