The Opportunity

The Ministry of Immigration and Career Training is looking for an experienced and collaborative leader to lead the Indigenous and Northern Services Branch as Executive Director. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will share responsibility for the development, planning and implementation of strategy and initiatives that contribute to achieving ministry goals and broader Growth Plan goals.

Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister, this position has overall responsibility for the direction and management of the ministry's Indigenous and Northern Services Branch. The position is responsible for:

  • Developing and maintaining partnerships with Indigenous and northern organizations, employers and federal/provincial stakeholders.
  • Overseeing and directing strategic approaches for indigenous and northern labour market development and worker recruitment and retention.
  • Developing and implementing practices and programs across the Ministry that will benefit employers and improve labour market outcomes for northern and indigenous job seekers.
  • Representing the Ministry when working with business and industry associations on northern and indigenous labour market issues. This includes working with senior officials in other economic ministries and post-secondary training institutions to develop labour market solutions to support investment attraction and business expansion for industry.
  • Establish strong collaborative relationships with employers, industry associations, and the stakeholders inside and outside government to address labour market challenges and opportunities for employers and job seekers.
  • Providing strategic options and comprehensive policy advice to the ADM.

As our ideal candidate, you will:

  • Thrive in a busy, fast-paced environment with complex problems to solve.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of government legislative and regulatory processes and protocols related to public policy development and financial management.
  • Have proven experience managing human and financial resources and accountability frameworks.
  • Effectively lead, coach and mentor a team to achieve organizational goals.
  • Have exceptional communication skills to effectively represent the ministry on labour market issues.
  • Have experience leading strategic initiatives, committees and working groups and managing change to achieve positive results.
  • Lead and inspire continuous improvement in program and policy development.

Typically, the knowledge, skills and experience required to be successful in this position would have been obtained through:

  • A degree in a related discipline.
  • Proven experience as a senior-level leader with a history of achieving results in collaborative environments.
