Plant Maintenance Technician
About the role
Position Summary The Plant Maintenance Technician oversees all preventative, breakdown maintenance and repair of plant equipment and facilities to ensure both operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all applicable government and regulatory body legislation and requirements and company policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*
Plant Maintenance & Repair:
- Complete all preventative maintenance tasks and repairs of plant equipment and facilities to ensure both operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all applicable government and regulatory body legislation and requirements and company policies.
- Track, document, and report on all repairs and maintenance activities and expenditures.
- Conduct regular inspections/audits of plant facilities and equipment and complete all required/scheduled repairs and preventative maintenance tasks.
- Help operating the plant and ensure the safe working environment for yourself and co-worker.
- Monitor Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) and Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF).
- Communicate with external vendors and contractors to obtain quotes and contracts for best value for the purchase of parts and services.
- Document, track, and order equipment and parts to ensure the effective and efficient management of plant assets and equipment inventory.
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors to ensure the delivery/successful completion of parts and services.
- Develop, implement, and providing training on standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safe job procedures (SJPs) for the operation of plant facilities and equipment to support efficient and safe operations so that Company Processing Ltd. (Company) may deliver its operational, safety, and financial objectives.
- Identify and communicate opportunities for process improvement.
- Assist with plant operations as needed and when directed by superior.
- Saturday or Sunday working is required as and when requested in place of working on regular working days
Quality Control / Food Safety
- Maintain and complete all facilities and equipment repairs in accordance with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Food Safety and Quality Management System (FSQM), FSSC / ISO 22000 and protocols.
Safety, Health, and Environment
- Ensure all government safety, health, and environmental regulations are met and adhered to.
- Report and track all facilities and equipment incidents and investigate as required.
- Communicate, document, and trend facilities and equipment hazard identifications and controls.
- Act as a safety role model and set a positive safety example for all staff with zero tolerance for safety, health, and environmental infractions, incidents, and injuries while using plant facilities, equipment, and tools.
- Implement facilities and equipment controls to reduce risks to people and equipment.
- Develop, implement, and provide training to employees on SOPs for the safe and operation of plant facilities, equipment, and tools, and/or arrange for external training and certification as needed for self and employees.
- Participate in all pre-shift and other safety meetings.
- Attend all required safety training and keep all certificates current.
- Always wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) on the production floor and/or as directed.
Teamwork:
- Establish and sustain a positive and cooperative employee environment through effective communications with all employees.
- Foster a team culture by sharing knowledge with team members and providing and receiving constructive feedback willingly and openly.
- Inform the team of any issues that would affect operations immediately.
- Identify and communicate opportunities for process improvement.
Specific Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Specialized training in mechanical systems maintenance or a related field, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of National Building Codes 2015, Canada Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, and all other relevant regulatory legislation.
- Prior experience working in food processing plant maintenance is considered an asset.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Office procedures experience including filing, use of computers and office equipment.
- Strong time management skills, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational skills.
- The ability to work individually and as part of a team.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Some overtime will be required to ensure plant is running in good operating conditions
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends on an as-needed basis.
- Must be available on call or to answer group messages 24/7 to direct the operations team
- Must be able to ensure good working conditions of all equipment for Grain elevator, Protein plant and other peripheral’s
- Mix of office and plant environment.
- Must be able to safely lift 23 kgs (50 pounds).
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend, squat, and climb ladders and stairs several times a day.
- Must be able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions throughout the year.
- Particulate contaminants: pea protein dust may contaminate the air with particles that can be inhaled; the use of a respirator is required.
- CSA approved steel-toed boots are required.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
