Diet Technician, Infant Milk Preparation
About the role
Sinai Health is looking for a Diet Technician, Infant Milk Preparation at Mount Sinai Hospital. The Diet Technician performs all duties necessary to ensure all breast milk recipes and infant formulas for Mount Sinai Hospital nurseries are prepared accurately and efficiently In this role you will: Collect frozen breast milk from single infant room and freezers in NICU Sort frozen breast milk and place in freezer Rotate all breast milk in freezer in FIFO (First In, First Out Method) Order any products and materials required Check rotation and expiry dates on products Collect daily feeding orders for each baby from nurseries database Check that daily feeding volumes are accurate and be aware of any feeding changes Print labels for each day's feedings Communicate with lactation consultants and/or primary nurses on breast milk volumes Maintain daily log of refrigerators and freezer temperatures both in the milk preparation room Monitor equipment, temperature controls and troubleshoot when necessary Prepare monthly quality assurance reports and production summaries Prepare probiotics for preterm infants Clean and sanitize all work surfaces in the milk preparation room before and after each recipe preparation Prepare and handle expressed breast milk following aseptic procedures Prepare specialized infant formulas and donor breast milk following aseptic procedures Accurately weigh and measure all ingredients (both liquid and powder) necessary to prepare all feedings Make any necessary calculations if adjustments are needed to the day's feeds Calculate amount of breast milk required for a 24 hour period for each baby to be thawed Prepared specialized breast milk or formulate recipes required for research studies Communicate breast milk/formula order discrepancies Store prepared breast milk and infant formulas properly until delivery to the nurseries Deliver all prepared breast milk and formulas to the NICU Maintain daily records of patient profiles regarding feeding orders Work following HACCP guidelines Completes daily census sheets or numbers of formulas and breast milks prepare Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required Job Requirements: Mandatory Successful completion of a Food and Nutrition Degree/diploma from an accredited educational institution 3 years of experience in a related field Applicants with proven equivalent and related training and experience may also be considered Preferred Experience in a health care environment Food Safety Training Certificate an asset Skills and Knowledge Knowledge of safe food handling procedures Good communication and interpersonal skills with various levels of the organization Excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent problem solving skills Demonstrated attention to detail with a high level of accuracy Demonstrated leadership skills Proficient using information technology tools and solutions i.e Microsoft Office and Health Information Systems (ex. Cerner, Timeless etc.)
Proven organizational and time management skills
Ability to work under pressure and meet time deadlines Ability to work as part of a team or independently Demonstrated satisfactory attendance and work performance
