About the role

Position Details

Industry, Energy and Technology - Government of Newfoundland and Labrador

Reporting to the Manager of Petroleum Audits and Assessments, this position plans and conducts audits and examinations of the operational records, financial records and financial control systems of project participants; provides direction to assigned staff, monitors progress and reviews completed work; provides royalty-related advice to various government departments and agencies, external legal counsel and public sector organizations; participates in dispute resolution processes; provides support for royalty arbitrations; assists in the development and advancement of provincial positions regarding petroleum royalty; monitors tax legislation and petroleum industry customs of trade for impacts on petroleum projects; co-ordinates with federal and provincial entities regarding joint audit activities and information exchange; and performs other related duties as required.

Screening Criteria

  1. Completion of an undergraduate degree in Commerce or Business Administration (equivalencies will be considered)
  2. Experience working in a professional accounting environment
  3. Experience planning and conducting audits
  4. Completion of a Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
  5. Experience supervising staff and reviewing work
  6. Experience with petroleum industry accounting (asset)
  7. Experience working with external stakeholder groups (asset)

Assessment Criteria

  1. Knowledge of GAAP accounting practices
  2. Knowledge of GAAS audit standards
  3. Knowledge of Computer Assisted Audit Techniques
  4. Knowledge of petroleum industry accounting (asset)
  5. Ability to lead others

Conditions of Acceptance

  1. Acknowledge requirement for day travel (occasional)
  2. Acknowledge requirement for overnight travel (occasional)
  3. Acknowledge requirement to maintain licenses/certifications as prescribed
