Role Overview:
The Buyer enhances customer and co-worker experiences by ensuring inventory levels are optimized, products are in 100% in stock, and costs are managed effectively through supplier coordination and inventory analysis. They contribute to operational efficiency by maintaining strong communication with internal teams and suppliers, while managing product knowledge and addressing inventory-related challenges.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Inventory Optimization and Stock Management
- Place purchase orders with approved suppliers and coordinate timely delivery of products
- Review purchasing reports daily to ensure inventory levels are maintained
- Review branch inventory to identify products for transfer in case of excess stock
- Participate in project work based on departmental needs and assignments
- Manage cost comparisons and analysis between suppliers to ensure the best pricing
- Follow up with suppliers to confirm delivery dates and ensure timely delivery
- Review invoicing issues for price discrepancies and work with Accounts Payable (AP) to resolve issues
- Work with Operations to assist and coordinate on receiving issues
Production Knowledge and Organizational Collaboration
- Assist the sales department with rush orders to meet customer delivery deadlines and achieve the goal of a 98% fill rate
- Communicate with the sales team to keep them informed of product timelines and delivery schedules
- Coordinate with Branch Managers on inventory transfers and other requests
- Maintain up-to-date product knowledge and ensure awareness of any changes or updates to the product line.
- Communicate with internal teams about inventory status, product availability, and any issues.

Knowledge/Skill/Ability Requirements:
- Ability to consistently model Next’s core values and character expectations listed above
- Excellent organizational, multitasking, and time management skills; with a strong ability to prioritize and problem-solve under pressure
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate with other departments
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Products (i.e. Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Strong plumbing and hydronics product knowledge and a desire for continuous learning through cross-training
- Knowledge of CloudSuiteDistribution is considered an asset
- Wholesale Distribution experience is preferred
Experience & Education:
- 3+ years of previous experience as a Buyer
- Post-secondary diploma/degree in Business, Economics, Purchasing/Procurement, or related field
Physical Demands/ Working Conditions:
- Position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle high-pressure situations calmly and effectively
- This position requires prolonged periods of working at a computer and using a keyboard and mouse
