About the role
The Health Care Aide (HCA) is a regulated health professional who provides direct personal care and health support services to clients across the lifespan, in accordance with their scope of practice, regulatory standards, and government legislation. Functional supervision is provided by a member of the nursing team and may occur directly or indirectly in accordance with client needs, care context, and regulatory standards. Working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team the HCA provides care in alignment with documented care plans and assigned or delegated tasks, delivering assistance with activities of daily living, monitoring and reporting changes in health status, and supporting the physical, emotional, psychosocial and behavioural well being of clients. HCAs attend to clients¿ comfort, engagement, and safety by recognizing changes in behaviour, responsiveness, participation, or signs of distress, and by promptly sharing observations with the appropriate team member. They play a vital role in promoting comfort, dignity, and continuity of care, and demonstrate flexibility in responding to the needs of clients and the care team. HCAs actively engage in continuous improvement through feedback, self-reflection, and learning opportunities. The role requires initiative, openness to growth, and a strong commitment to professionalism, responsibility, and accountability. This includes intentionally living Covenant¿s values in day-to-day practice and reflecting them in decision-making, client interactions, teamwork, and the overall approach to care.

Required Qualifications:
Must be registered with and hold a valid practice permit from College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) prior to commencing employment.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum of one (1) year of recent (within the past two years) adult acute inpatient experience, and/or a recent successful preceptorship in orthopaedic or surgical nursing within the past two years. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with proven problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities. Strong assessment and organizational skills are required, along with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment. Connect Care training along with basic computer proficiency is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum of two (2) years of recent adult acute orthopaedic/surgical experience (within the past three years) is required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) – Healthcare Provider (Level C) certification is required.
